Radio station picks best rock singers of all time: do you agree?
A Toronto radio station had a contest of sorts where people voted for the top classic rock singers of all time.
I'm sure you'll agree with some, but not others. I'd have put number 2 at number 1, but that's just me.

What? Roger waters over David Gilmour? Not a chance! And John Lennon over Paul McCartney? Listen to Let it Be, and then listen to Cold Turkey and decide. All excellent singers though.
Music is everybody's possession. It's only publishers who think that people own it.

I could never get into the whole gender patriotism thing but if you click the link Janis is number 16.

I never liked Plant's voice. And only Freddie could get a whole soccer stadium riled up and singing "we will, we will, rock you!"

These polls are never very meaningful. It's such a subjective thing that you'd never get two people to agree on a particular list - even less so on a particular order. They've got Brad Delp at #34 and he would be much higher on my list.....Axl Rose's caterwauling probably wouldn't even crack my list of the top 10,000 singers. How anyone can put Roger Daltrey and Bono above Elton John is completely beyond me, and where's David Lee Roth??? Janis Joplin above Stevie Nicks??? Definitely lots of room for debate.

These lists are always more good for ongoing debate that anything else but Freddy being at the top - or very, very close to it would be one I'd have to agree to.

I don't have too much problem with that list, although I very much question Elton John being considered "rock". He's far more pop than rock (heck of a musician and songwriter, though). All of those listed have very distinctive voices and that is likely the biggest driving factor. As Stratrat said, these things aren't meaningful- I personally would kick Jim Morrison out- never cared for the Doors as a group, and Morrison's singing never really impressed me that much.
I don't have a problem with the top 3. Wonder where Ozzy is on the list?

Why is Axl even in there? To me that's really scraping the bottom of the barrel. And above Phil Collins?
And where might Steve Marriott be?
And Tina Turner?

I have to agree with Freddie Mercury being at the top as well. And,even though I never liked Wham!,to be fair ,George "Hairless Lispers" Michael should have been in there somewhere after hearing him sing Freddie's songs a few years ago.
