It is more the drugs and booze. Eddie looks like he's 60.

Not sure how long the band, or anyone for that matter, could stand David Lee Roth

They already had one attempt at it and it fell apart - I think Roth and Eddie have a bit of a Gillan-Blackmore thing about them.

Eddie has even more than drugs and booze to worry over. He fell victim to mouth cancer (been a smoker since he was a young lad) - of the tongue and has been through the mill as you can imagine, on top of his alcoholism!

I understand that even after his operation for cancer he still continued to smoke!
it appears though that he is on the mend

I just find it so sad to look at the above picture and then I remember how happy and fit he looked on those Live Van Halen concert dvd's I have.

Now he looks about 70 let alone 60.

It's a good lesson to all those aspiring rock guitar gods out there not to mix booze etc with music.

Actually while we're on the subject of Eddie Van Halen, a friend of mine who is a guitar teacher related to me an interesting tid bit of info regarding the man himself (EVH)

My friend told me that when Van Halen toured here a few years back, he was lucky enough to go back stage to meet the blessed one.

Prior to actually meeting him, my friend said he was pulled aside by one of Eddie's bodyguards and explicitly ordered that when Eddie reaches to shake his hand that he is to grab Eddie's hand very gently and not to squeeze Ed's hand too hard.

Reason: Eddie's hand is insured for millions of dollars and he didn't want anyone damaging the use of his hand.

Nevertheless, my friend gladly complied and met Eddie, gently shaking his golden hand and now has a great memory to go with it.

I hear that Eddie didn't know anything about this and was often overheard saying "What is the world coming to these days?... it seems that everyone I meet has a really weak handshake".
