I belong to a forum of pretty good players and they all hate nirvana. I think it is because the bands playing skills were so basic. I think they missed the point. It wasn't about the playing ,but the overall feel to the music. Having said that, there are only a few of thieir tunes I listened too. S of D I don't know much about, but the rest definately kick butt.

Not Basic? HUH???

I dislike them mainly because their songs are so basic. Most of the beginner guitarists I know play some nirvana song before anything else, oh that ond smoke on the water or possibly the first bar of Nothing else matters...

Much as I like Nirvana, it's something I rarely play as it's too easy, however, I have dificulty conveying the feel and aggression of Kurt's attack which I would say makes him a good guitarist. Now dave Gilmour...now you talking!!!

Nirvana is one of my main influences
and i think one of the best bands ever
they are basic in alot of there songs

but you cant forget they created a very different and new sound and brought grunge and the material of alot of alternative bands into the public view (The Vaselines, Meat Puppets)

the Ramones....how can u not at least appreciate there impact on music
Hendrix come on now you gotta love Hendrix
Pink Floyd=badasses ...but i dont listen regularly my bro loves em

I've never really listened to Led Zep I'm gonna soon to see if i like
and SOAD there to loud and crazy for like regular listening but there still alright

Hey how bout The Dave Matthews Band

If you want to sample Led Zep, skip the obvious choices (you know what they are) and jump straight into "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You"... awwww it makes my hair stand on end just talking about it... what a song... [play loud].

From that list, I'm going with Pink Floyd and Nirvana.
Love them both.

Nirvana is one of my favorite bands, and it's sad that
they ended they way they did.. Kurt Cobain definitely
had an ear for melody. There's a string tribute to Nirvana
CD out there that has Nirvana songs played by a string
quartet. It's beautiful. Even though the songs themselves
are basic from a guitar perspective, the actual melodies
are just amazing.

Listen to the samples:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...music&v=glance

I'd much rather listen to Cobain's simple guitar solos than
those by Satriani, Vai, or anybody from any 80s metal band.
At least there's a discernable melody in Nirvana's music.

Hehe. "Come As You Are" was the first song I ever learned on
guitar.

Oh, off-topic, but I'd just like to say that Radiohead rules.

I caught their unplugged gig on tv. I must admit I prefered their tunes done that way.

Well I reckon youd better hurry up and get into Zeppelin....Jimmy is crazy but still a champ. And yeah, what about DMB? Surely Dave deserves some credit around here, being my most influential guitarist....pitty DMB isn't particularly well known in these parts.
