How to start recording with Audacity

Hope this little 3 part whoopdie doo can help someone step into recording a little easier. Very basic from downloading the program to simple recording.

Thanks Eddie, thats was a friend on the first and last part doing the lead, she was playing over some stuff I did on my keyboard. all the backings were done by my keyboard cheat section{ i just change chords when I want} I did play bass on the last section though.

X4,
Very nice tutorial, loved the background music. You don't get that with the training stuff I usually see.

Kenny,
When I go into Audacity I don't have the option for "what you hear" and "line-in". My options are "Wave out mix, Mono Out, Line In, Aux, Microphone and CD Player".

si16, Thankyou...I'm honored and embarrassed at the same time, guess I won't be in such a rush next time.

Knight, I believe you'll still want "line in" for recording. sorry about the confusion, never even dawned on me about the different sound cards. If you still have problems let me know, I can install it on one of my other "stock" machines and we'll figure it out together.

  Up-Date

Thanks to a very patient Moderator, this thread has been updated with new sections, all redone with the hopes of offering a little more detail, in the way of getting into recording for those who want to get their feet wet.

I've also included a section on downloading "Lame"{Mp3 Encoder} and how to use it, the link for "Lame" is here.

Audacity: How do I download and install the LAME MP3 encoder?
