2 X-Mas Songs
Attached are two MP3 files of Christmas songs I've learned. Both seem to be very popular this year: Silent Night and God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen. These were recorded about 2 months ago, and after re-listening to them tonight, they are basic but sound. I'm a little better at this point, and that was one of my goals with the guitar, i.e. I always want to be better than I used to be.
Thanks for listening, and I'm off to listen to the Christmas station.

Nice one, Rob ... you've certainly got it all mapped out nicely. Good set of fingers you have, too. It's Christmas Eve here right now, so it's very apt. Thanks.

Hi Jim,
As a clarification, I've been playing since April 2005. I recorded these two songs about 2 months ago when my quest was to create a short CD of Christmas songs to go along with our Christmas cards. But, my community college guitar class got in the way of that, and i had to change my priorities.
As for background, I was quite the band geek in High School, where I taught myself the French Horn, Trombone, Sousaphone, and standup bass. Continued on with the Horn and Trombone for 3 years in college, but never any lessons, and I was never good enough to think of music as a career.
I never learned theory, but what I did learn was a good work ethic when it comes to learning music. I don't try to tackle whole songs right off the bat. Every song is made up of bars, and I have to learn songs bar by bar until I've memorized them, and then it's time for weeks of playing over and over. I picked up PT a couple of weeks ago, and now that the X-mas season is over, I can go back to my dailoy guitar playing and learning routine.
Thanks for the nice words. I'll post more songs as I become satisfied with the recordings.

Hi Henry,
The setup was: Seagull S6 (purchased in Las Vegas in August -- right *before* I finally hit a Royal Flush in quarters and won a grand) with Cleartone coated strings, Light Gauge. I saw them advertised in one of the recent Musician's Friend catalogs, and since I lived in humid Monterey, CA, I tried a set because they said that all strings were coated instead of just the lower 4.
I really liked them, and I got about 6 weeks out of them before I changed. It was at that point that I had my guitar set-up, and the new strings, which I absolutely love, are Spectrum Bronze 12s, Item #SB112. Sorry - I'm in our purchasing department and part numbers have come to rule my life. I'm changing these strings tonight after having them on for about 6 weeks, and they are pretty dull. But, they sound fantastic on my guitar, and since I don't perform in public, I can live with strings being on that long. Also, they run about $15/set, so prefer to get every ounce of sound out of them that I can, thus the 6 weeks.

Heh. Left out bit of information on my re-read. The brand name of the strings I currently use is Thomastik-Infeld. Spectrum Bronze is the type of string, and SB112 is the part number. Wanted to clear that up before anyone called me on the carpet.
