My Back Pages - Dylan/McGuinn

I woke up today with this tune on my mind. It's one many of us grew up on. So I sat down and worked it out.

My Back Pages was written by Bob Dylan. It is one of the best tunes he ever wrote. Add Roger McGuinn into the mix and you truly have a magical tune!

My Page Pages - HiFi [3.2Mb @ 3:19]

Hope you all enjoy it.

Great, Les

What does McGuinn have to with it? Was he on the original recording?

Great job Les! There's a real sixties sound to that tune. Good singing too.

Dylan released My Back Pages in 1966. The Byrds along with McGuinn's jingle jangley Rickenbacker made My Back Pages a hit in February of '67 as they did a number of Dylans tunes. My Back Pages was the last tune of Dylan's The Byrds made a hit, I believe.

Ah - I see. I didn't know they covered that one too. I remember Tambourine man and Chimes of Freedom. And you've certainly got that McGuinn guitar sound in this one.

Very nice, Les. I haven't thought about that one for ages - as usual Dylan writes a masterpiece and as usual you have done it justice

I saw Roger McGuinn do that one last Night in Mount Dora Florida. A really great show and super venue, less than 200 people in a hundred year old theater. It was a benefit to help restore this old theater. Met his wife Camilla too, just the way she sounds on the Folk Den site, Roger McGuinn is really a great guy and a wonderful performer. If you get a chance to see him perform don't niss it.

Your version was great too Les, it's a super song and i really like the McGuinn take as opposed to the Dylan sound. Thanks for posting it. I was just digging out some old albums to find the song...

Hey John,

What an opportunity! A 200 seat show with Roger. That had to be a real treat!

I missed my chance to see Roger back in August. I was all lined up to get my Ric autographed. I was heart broken, but family comes first! If you haven't already heard it, I did a cover of The Byrds rendition of Dylans 'Mr Tamborine Man' here.

The Folk Den site is a hidden jewel of the Internet. Like John, says, the McGuinn family is great and all you (us) folkies should spend a few minutes over at Folk Den. It is well worth your time!

Yeah - great job on My Back Pages - and although McGuinn wasn't on the original recording (but I got to witness a great collaboration on it at BobFest in NYC for Bob's 30 year anniversary with Columbia Records in 92), he did adapt it so beautifully to his style and although I'm a much greater Dylan fan, I love and have been influenced by Roger - and yes, the Folk Den is awesome - and would love to catch him again.

Now to check out that Mr. Tambourine Man up above

I missed that show - do you have a setlist? Was he solo or with a band?
