Hi there,

I just joined and thought I'd jump in at the deep end by posting a recording (made in Acid Pro 5).

The drum track is a looped sample, guitar is my Gordon Smith GS1,bass my Tokai Jazz

It's just a short jam in D with both guitar and bass recorded in one shot/take and unedited .... there ya go - mergewah.mp3 crits welcome

Fun little ditty- I like the funky bass line. Recording quality is good, too. Must say that I'm glad it was short- to develop it into a full song, you'll need to add more of a melody as well as a chorus section.

By the way, welcome aboard- might want to slap a post up at the Member Intros section.

Hey OldG - Welcome!

That was a really good mix of instruments - well played, mixed and recorded. It would be great if you could expand that to something with more of a melodic line, but I don't think that was your intention in this little jam. But a good thing to shoot for if you decide to expand it into a larger piece.

Good work!

Jim

hey, thanks both for your comments.. Glad you found things you liked about it

The piece was recorded with no planning whatsoever - I was messing with loops in Acid when I got the urge to pick up my bass and jam D pentatonic type runs over the drum beat, that sounded ok so I added a strum in as many different variations of D as came to mind on the fly... lead guitar was imrovised over the top after listening through once or twice to get the feel of things. I was really surprised at the sound After I mixed the stereo/volume at how it all sat together!

When I get round to completing a whole song I'll be sure to post it here!

Oh yeah, I recorded everything through a Boss ME-50 pedal(using the compressor and effects) directly into the soundcard with Asio4All taking care of latency issues.

I use Asio4All too - as I record with Audacity - and it's really made a huge difference in getting rid of latency problems that were plaguing my earlier recording on my laptop!

Hey OldG!
Nice take. D-rocks! I'll take your advice and see if I can't mess around and add an A or maybe A7... then my little ditty would be... DA.... Now it's only D... Some might say D-falls flat!

I missed this the first time around. It'd be nice if the guitar and maybe the bass were a little more up front in the mix. Awesome bass line. You need to post more stuff.

Hey thanks guys!

I really wasn't meaning to bump my old thread for further comments ( I was sharing the liking for 'D'jammin' with Todd), but I do appreciate the feedback on what was quite an early recording. I do have a good amount of original material to record which we will be working on now the constuction of the 'studio' is finished.

Todd: Great to see your jam has grown into song! I'll pop over and post my thoughts in a bit. Excellent stuff and a great way to build a song methinks.

Eddie,Red and Fly: Thanks again, I have worked on the mixing side of things a lot since that was made and I agree the guitars and bass are a little low - it's a shame I lost the original takes with a failed hard drive - Back up your stuff fellas!

OldG,
Never feel that way. You post'em when you get a thought. New commers may miss them. That would be ashamed.
