Stranger On The Shore

An Acker Bilk oldie. Sorry but I still haven't bought a mic or mixer. I've been otherwise engaged lately and not had time to get that done, or to visit the forum for that matter. Been listening to some really good stuff today here though . My compliments to all posters.

Lovely playing yet again.
Always a pleasure to listen to your recordings.
Pardon my ignorance, but who is (or was, as the case may be) Acker Bilk?

Ah yes. Acker Bilk. He is a clarinet player of the first order. Jazz is his thing and Stranger on the Shore was one of his biggest hits way back when. Check him out here:

Another great Chammon tune. Nice job. That one sounded a bit like a lullaby to me. Very relaxing and pleasing to the ear.

Ahhh ... what a pleasure, chammon. How classy.

I certainly remember Aker coming out with this one ... somewhere around 1960 I guess. 'Petite Fleur' was his other big hit, as I recall.

Thanks Kirk and all who listened. Yes, it was 1961 when Acker Bilk made 'Stranger On The Shore' to be number 1 in both U.S. and U.K. Here is a link to his bio which has the tune playing as background music.
