First Video!! The Making of "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright"
Video compression is an amazing thing!! As I said yesterday, my friend Richard put his digital camera on a TV in the room facing us playing "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" by Dylan, and set it to record video. It's got 1GB of memory so long videos are possible on it. The problem was that the AVI file of this 4 minute song was 290MB in size!!!
Clancy told me about Windows Movie Maker, and I was easily able to get it down to the 10MB limit with decent quality. In fact, I was able to get it down to about 4MB and is still is watchable and the audio quality is passable to at least get the idea of what we're playing.
I'm the geek on the left playing the white strat, and I got a bit clipped off (but really just my left elbow). Richard was REAL happy because all of him and his geetar made it in really nicely....grrrr... This is the two of us doing the guitar parts (me fingerpicking and he on rhythm) with a drum machine in the background - no bass yet in this take. I'm 54 and he's 57 and we've both lost more hair than we have left and we both wear glasses - and well, we're two geeks! (is that a good name for band? )
So, here's the 10MB version, and I'll also post the 4MB one for those with slower connections, but as I said the quality is passable on the 4MB one - but certainly better than nothing!

No one can master every aspect of guitar playing, they just get better everyday.

If that wasn't coming from a 50 year old, I'd resemble that remark...

Har. I thought you would be taller, have more hair and look thinner. Nah. You look pretty good for a youngster pushing 50. I gotta tell you, get some sun on those legs man, that's sad. Oh yeah, the playing was good too Nothin better than jammin with friends.
Good stuff.

"pushing" 50! How about pushing 55! I'm glad I was able to disappoint you so well Marty... Well, at least I won't be getting skin cancer from too much sun exposure! Heck, between work and wife and geetar - who has time for sun anyway? I live in Joisey - I get my "rays" from the toxic radioactive dumps!!
Oh yeah, thanks for the compliment on the playing!
Thanks Joe! We don't need hair to cover up our perfect heads - right? It's just another thing to have to maintain and get cut and brush and it's cooler in the hot summer without it. So, we're the lucky one, aren't we? Yeah.... OK, I deserve a flop vote for that!
Thanks!!

cool! Hey, I took a chance and downloaded the 10 megabyte version. It opened and you guys entered my house in 16 seconds. Wow! There must be no one online tonight in Canuckistan. My luck! For some reason the vocals didn't come through as clearly in the video. But still a great all around performance. And yes, you passed the audition!

Hey Todd!
16 seconds - wow, cool! Actually, it's amazing that the sound came out as good in the video as it did since it was being recorded by the digital camera itself that was in the other corner of the room!! The other recording was directly into the digital recorder from the mic - so everything should have sounded a lot clearer.

We don't have a name Tom, but I had thought about "Tired Starlings" since that's a line from "White Room" which is the first song we did together, and we're definitely tired!!
And thanks Marty --- actually, I got carded once when I was 35, which really made me feel good!
