Original Tune - Until I See You Again
Just recorded this today. Wrote the lyrics the other night. My first recording of this song. It's called "Until I see You Again." Kindly take a listen and throw me some feedback, digital style I'd like to add a bridge/turnaround with an Em or the like in it just FYI.
I pray one day I can play....Good

Real nice Ben!
Great song, and your playing and singing really fit great with the feel of the song.
Top notch!

Nice stuff. Sounds like something Rhett Miller of Old97's might do.
Good work.

Nice job- you've got yourself a tune there! Now you need to work out a little accompaniment for a second guitar just to add in a little bit here and there and it'll be totally sweet.

really good thinking there! What should I have the 2nd guitar do? Just play over the chords with me? Seems I don't have too many friends to play with...

Nice job! You've got a good singing voice and it suits that style of song really well. Kind of like a Counting Crowes sound going on there.

Ah, this is where the magic of multi-track recording comes in. You are pretty much limited only by your imagination (and skill level, which increases pretty rapidly). Whatever recording software you are using (Audacity is very good to start with, especially since it's free- that's what I started out on) will allow you to play your tracks back while also recording. You just need to make sure your soundcard and the software settings are set for "duplex". Slap on your headphones and play along with the rest of the song and you've got yourself a band!
On my songs, because I'm not in a position to get a bass yet, the bass guitar is actually my acoustic-electric- I take that track and copy it, and pitch one of them down an octave, then I have to mess with the eq, compression, etc. to get it to sound halfway decent.
As far as what you should have the second guitar do, that is up to the individual artist. I personally lean toward building a "wall of guitars", a habit I am trying hard to break. One thing to try would be to simply fingerpick the chords in arpeggio fashion along with the 1st guitar. When you mix the song, you would set that guitar back a little bit in the mix so it is simply adding a little bit of body. Or you could come up with something that is played during the chorus to build more dynamism in the song.
Whichever way you go, you'll learn a lot, get better at recording, and better at playing guitar. Even through playing along with a recording you get a little bit of the experience of playing with others.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
