Poor House - Traveling Wilbury's - lotsa slide :)
Folks,
This is a great fun time melody. Extremely simple--C/G/Am. Standard tuning
One of my goals is to learn slide guitar like George Harrison. I've been practicing over the last 6 or 7 months to that end. It's illusive, I'll say that much. George slides in standard tuning using single notes. Really cool stuff!
This recording had two goals. On the musical side I wanted to see how it is sliding whole hog. It's really more difficult than I ever though sliding in this fashion. It really takes concentration. I can't tell you how many times I ran through the slide lead in the middle of the song. Don't get yer hopes hopes up! This is my first full recording doing slide. It's sloppy, sloppy, sloppy......
On the technical side I wanted to record that "wall of guitars" the Wilbury's were famous for creating! For that "wall of guitars" I played the Guild 12, Ibanez 6 and a mandolin. Of course, the sliding was done on a Strat running through a Line6 Pod doing some tweed blues. The Fender on Switch Position 1. The acoustics were mic'd up, double tracked and then some heavy compression. I hope it's not too "muddy". Right now I have a bad case of "recording ear" from listening to this full tilt in the head phones. I don't have monitors so I have no clue how it will sound on computer speakers or even a stereo.
Anyway, I hope this works.....
Poor House ( HI-FI) - Traveling WIlbury's [3.2mb @ 3:20]
Poor House ( LO-FI) - Traveling Wilbury's [800k @3:20]
Let me know....
Enjoy
Les
..
PS... the lo-fi will obviously be of less quality. But for those on slow connections, I hope this helps... !
Cheer Down!!

I certainly enjoyed that IC. Never really thought about how difficult that slide might be, GH seemed to do it so effortlessly. I reckon you've done a great job.

Thanks so much for providing a low-fi option here, Les!
Alas! the link appears to be broken at the time of posting this.

Thanks Les!
Just listened to the low-fi on headphones. Sounded great to me.
A nice fun tune and I can't say I found the slide sloppy at all.

That sounded excellent. The slide playing was good also. I've been working on getting some slide going in my playing, but I'm still at the cat killing stage . Lots harder than it looks .

Real nice Les!
I'm also a GH and Wilbury's fan -- and I own a slide, but haven't had the time yet to learn how to use it in std. tuning... Now it sounds harder than I hoped and I'll probably put it off some more again...

My mum always used to say when we were kids "We'll end up in the poor house". We vever did but that brought back a few memories. Thanks Les. The slide playing was good but the tone was perhaps a bit thin. You succeded in your goal, it was very 'full' sounding overall.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
