Blues in C

Hello,
This is my first post. I enjoy listening to everyone else's, so I thought maybe there is at least one person who would enjoy this a little bit. I've been playing for a little more than a year now, but without a teacher; I can read music though, so it's not that bad. Anyway, this is just a blues in C that I made up yesterday. It is just 3 tracks of guitar. I put some thought and a little practice into the bassline and chord tracks, but the melody is just improvised, and I was done with it after the second try, so I hope it doesn't sound too awful. If it does sound too awful, I hope you'll tell me anyway. Oh, and my recording setup is very basic at best. It's just my acoustic Ovation guitar for all tracks, and I don't have a mic, so I just run the guitar into the amp, then the output on the amp directly into the little mic jack on my girlfriend's laptop. So, enjoy, I hope...
John

The ovation acoustic sounds good, didn't know you could record an acoustic like that, but i'm no expert at recording. As far as the music I haven't been playing much longer then you so all I can say is it sounds like your progressing ok and was easy to listen too

Welcome to the site!

Thanks for a good first effort - and as I've found out so many times myself, recording is more than half the battle. I thought what I could hear of the bassline was good, but it was drowned out by the other tracks that were louder, and it made it hard to hear the whole piece in perspective. I've done this myself all too many times...

Check the tuning of your guitar as well right before you record. I think it may have been a little out of tune, especially in the higher notes. In the summer and winter weather I find my guitars going quickly out of tune - and if the AC is on, they can even go sharp on me.

Trying redoing with less volume and retuned - and I think it will sound much more balanced and easy to hear what's going on in all the parts.

Keep at it!!!
Jim

  Thanks for quick replys

Thanks Jim and Tom. I'll work on it a bit and maybe repost in a few days. I think part of the reason the high notes sound off-tune is that I haven't changed my strings in a couple of months, and once the get old and crusty it messes up the pitch higher up on the fretboard.

Good quality recording. I think the rhythm part was better than the lead. Just iron out those few issues and you'll have a keeper.

Good start jwgealt. Bit more practice and you will be well away. Take care with your tuning.
