Original - Reflechir for guitar and piano - 1969
When I saw that RockerBob's name was Keith, it started me thinking about my friend Keith, and I remembered this guitar and piano piece that we wrote in 1969 and that we played together -- and as it's already up on my classical compositions website ( http://jamessignorile.com/ if any one is interested in my non-blues/folk/rock side ). I'll just link to that file and save a little server space here since I know more and more music is getting posted here, and it will reach critical mass one of these days!
To be lazy, here's what I have on my website about this piece (with Keith's last name omitted to protect his privacy):
Quote:
Op. 26. This is an original composition for Piano and Guitar by my good friend Keith (last name here) and myself. It was written in 1969, when we were both High School seniors, and we collaborated on several original compositions and arrangements around that time. Years later (1987) I ended up working with Keith again, this time as a Software Engineer, but that is a different story...
This performance is a studio recording made with Keith on piano and myself on guitar. Improvisation during the recording was the rule rather than the exception. But not quite to the extent as our very famous 4-hands piano rendition of The Beatles "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da". Our apologies to The Beatles, and anyone else that has heard us do that over the years, but as we always say, Lights, Camera, Money...
|
Don't try to understand the last couple of sentences above - it's kind of an inside joke... funny to us, makes no sense to anyone else!
And "studio recording" back in 1969 meant my little reel-to-reel tape deck running in my living room where the piano was. So, the quality of recording is not what is usually meant by "studio" but I meant it to differentiate it from a concert recording. And I really can't remix this one folks -- ya have to take it as is!
Here it be:

Very pretty song, Jim... Very well written, sounds like it should have a choir singing over
it... Angelic voices, so to speak...!!!
You can mix it by importing the mp3 into your recording software... You will be limited to
mixing the complete song, but you can adjust the EQ and mess around with effects and
processing stuff...!!!
Cheers

Hey Jim, cool stuff. Reaching back into the boxes in the back of the garage to dust that one off, huh? In 1969 I wasn't thinking about playing guitar, but I might have been playing with Tonka trucks in the sandbox!

Thanks guys!
This really is an oldie - but a goodie that I had kind of forgotten about.
I don't think I would mess with remixing this performance, but maybe I can do something with it brand new. I'll see if inspiration strikes (and I want to expend the perspiration to do the work again on it!)

That's a nice melody, Jim. Would have liked to have heard a bit more guitar though. It's held up well after 37 years.

Thanks si16 and Misty!
Yeah, when I listen to it I want to hear more of me (guitar) as well, but the mic was likely on the piano as that's where the melodic stuff was happening. That's probably why I didn't think of putting it up here before - there just wasn't enough guitar stuff happening -- but it's a nice song, so I thought you all would enjoy it!
It's good material for me to do something new with though!

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
