Bourree by Bach
My grumpy neighbour has been away so I have been really going for it this week with the guitar. I have been asked to play this at a wedding. I can fake classical to a certain extent, but as I found when I recorded Cavatina and this one, it really shows up the flaws in technique. I kinda feel naked when I am playing this. Such a different technique to the Chet/Tommy style of solo guitar, which I feel pretty comfortable with these days. The tone of the steel string also doesn't quite capture the same qualities as I imagine a nylon would. I haven't really played a nylon since I was about 12, and I got my first acoustic and it was all downhill from there!
Once again, thanks for listeing and thanks to Kirk and Clancy for giving us the opportunity to post our music up here.
This is a great guitar community to be a part of.

Nicely done. May I suggest that you slow it down a bit. It sounds a bit rushed to my ear. I want to savour every note. They are going to be delighted with your playing. Very cool.

Those neighbours of yours must be either professional music critics with a real nasty streak, or just plain grumps to complain about your playing scotty. I thought the tempo was about right, if anything, add the tiniest pinch of vivace and you're done to perfection.

Well done, scotty. I used to play that one too, back when I thought I was going to be classical player ... before I slipped that bottleneck onto my pinkie! I love Bach.

Hey Scotty, I agree with AT. Slow it down a bit... Technically you nailed it, but it sounds
rushed... Very Cool tune... Ever hear Tull's version...?
Cheers

Wow! Another side of Scotty_b! Nice job. Better not slide a bottleneck on your pinkie like Kirk or you'll lose this style!

Really nice Scotty!!!
I don't think it's rushed, but rather this piece just sounds better naturally a little slower - just IMO.
But great job!

Sounded real good to me, Scotty. I thought the tempo was fine. I saw Paul McCartney interviewed on Parkinson recently and he said George Harrison and himself were always playing this tune. It eventually became the inspiration for 'Blackbird'.

I wasn't so much surprised as bemused.
I think the four of them, and Paul in particular, were fantastic at borrowing ideas from other people (and from all genres) and creating something completely new from it.

Scotty - I think it sounds great on a steel string.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
