Minuet in G - JS Bach

I'm starting to get a bit more comfortable with recording, I don't get anywhere like as nervous as I used to. This is a quick recording of the famous Bach piece. What I like about it is that, while the first melody is repeated twice exactly the same, the bass notes underpinning the melody change and a couple of extra ones are added.

Eg The first time through the bass notes are G, B, C, B, C, G, D, B, G and on the repeat they are B, G, B, G, C, B, C, B, A, G, A, B, G, B, C, D and G.

I'm not particularly knowledgeable about theory or classical music but I know that this is a distinctive feature of Bach's compositions. Kirk also does it in his lessons here. Is there a name for this technique? Reharmonisation?

This composition is also the basis - melody almost note for note but time signature changed from 3/4 to 4/4 - for one of the all-time great pop songs. 1965s "Lover's Concerto" by the Toys. "How gentle is the rain, that falls softly on the meadow". Remember that one?

Really nice playing!!!

Remember that Bach wrote many of his pieces for keyboard, and changing what the left (bass) hand is doing while keeping the right (melody) hand the same is a common technique for variation, and can also be extended into something as complex as a fugue.

Bach was one of the greatest!!! During the Cream Goodbye concert DVD (from 1968), there are interviews with the Cream members, and Jack Bruce also talks about how much he learned from Bach. Bach's bass lines are awesome!

Oh, si16... How glad I am that you´re playing Bach.
Bach is music, and music is Bach.
Bach has saved my day many, many times.

I´m also glad that you´re getting more comfortable with recording. Just keep on doing it. Great to hear you, man!

Thanks again everyone, Chammon, the feeling's more than mutual.

Joe, say it ain't so. What happened to the naked baby avatar? Just think what a terrible place the world would be if we all started doing what CanuckTodd told us. Bring Bach the baby. See what I mean? Terrible.

Nice one si16. Careful, with that Kulchoor stuff, you'll have us all trading in our amps and getting into nylons.
