Wonderful Tonight

My take on the classic... (A bit abbreviated) Still trying to get a feel for how to play vocal melodies on the
guit.

Please let me know what you think... To me it sounds really shallow, and I can't figure out why... What am I doing wrong?

That is excellent. So what did you use for the backing track?

Thanks for the nice words guys...!!!

Bluesguy: I create my own backing tracks. The drums I sequence in Groove Agent,
same with bass lines, unless I feel adventurous and actually sit down and play my bass.
For all other synth instruments I use my M-Audio Radeon keyboard...
If I want to put together something quickly, I'll just plug in some chords in to
Band in a Box... That's usually how I practice...

strtblstr: I have the same problem with some of the audio files on this site,
specially if I use Firefox, it wants to open mp3's in QUICKTIME...
That's why I mostly use IE when browsing here... I also set MediaPlayer as my default
for listening to the songs. For some reason it seems to work the best... Although it
still locks up on some files... What I do in that case is, I download the file to my hard
drive and listen to it from there...

Cheers....!!!
Ben

That was pretty good. I think I know what you mean about shallow though thats really not the right word for it. The tune seems a little fast so you don't get to linger on the melody notes to give them as much feel as you could. It is those bends and the acending line and how you play them that that makes the tune. You have the mechanics down. Now you need to put some heart into it if you get what I am saying.

I'd say ya nailed the vocal melody Nocat, I can hear what you're describing as shallow. I'm gonna somewhat agree with Allthumbs, I think those bending notes should get a little more attention or "emphasis"given to them...lay in 'em a bit more, they seem to come and go kinda quick, draw 'em out some to get the emotion across,(make 'em cry) give EC a quick listen. And it did feel a tad up-tempo. Amazing recording skills I must say, (I'm new to this whole recording thing,, still trying to get familiar with Audacity ) Just gave it another listen, I'm wondering... maybe if ya could mix in a bass to bring the bottom end up a little, I hear what your saying, not shallow...maybe tinny....to much high end,,,needs some bottom end. No means trying to come off negative man, just throwin' my 2 cents in.
That's just my personal opinion... nailed it otherwise bro!!!!

Garry

Doesn't sound shallow to beginner me. Beautifully played with style and finesse. I think it would come across even better at a slower tempo though. Thanks for the listen.

Shallow? Fast? Tinny? Sounded great to me! I try to play that tune and it doesn't sound much like that!
Every time I hear a real guitarist post a tune, I think.. uh oh, I'm not going post any more of my crappy takes! Nice job! Hey, miss a note here and there to make the rest of us feel better, ok? : )

Ok... I think I know what you guys mean... I re-recorded it at a slower tempo and I
think it definitely helps with the "feel". Also boosted the bottom end a bit...
What do you guys think...??!??

Wonderfull Tonight Again

CanuckTodd: Please don't feel like that Todd...!!! I enjoy listening to your songs..!!!

Oh WOW. Now that's really sexy.

Any chance you could post the backing track? That's made me want to dig my electric out of the closet.

Technically competent. The lead line needs to project more (brought forward). Much prefer the slower tempo. Well done nocat, you are becoming quite prolific.

Cool   Masterful!

Awesome Nocat!

Those guys were on to something, the slower tempo did have a more melodic feel.
Don't worry about my earlier comment, I'll post tunes again and will listen carefully to the feedback. I was just trying to give you a compliment and be slightly cheeky about my own abilities. I'm not at all jealous at the talent in this forum, more inspired than anything, and I really don't want you to miss a note!
I appreciate this place and the feedback from people who have been playing a long time.
Garry has been particularly helpful, and I suspect he might have the makings of a good moderator for this place!
