Psychedlic 60's Style Jam Video

I asked my guitar instructor to show me the difference between a volume pedal and a wah pedal. I filmed him playing the volume pedal using an origional backing track. The volume pedal gives a really cool psychedlic tone to the guitar.

Hope ya'll enjoy it.

I believe using the volume pedal in that way is called swells for obvious reasons. Dire Straights used that a lot on some of their tunes.

Many of the greatest exponents of the swell use(d) their little finger, (charmingly called a 'pinky' by many) to execute this effect; Rory Gallagher, Roy Buchanan, Mark Knopfler, and the inimitable Nils Lofgren.
Try it with pinched harmonics or loads of delay. This works best on a Strat, and is the reason many modern 'superstrats' have the volume control so close to the bridge.

A good volume pedal is a joy. When I was looking for one, almost 30 years ago, I looked into what pedal steel guitar players were using. They usually used really good, smooth taper, silent volume pedals. I ended up with a Goodrich. It does not use a potentiometer. It is controlled by a light sensor and the pedal moves the light shade up and down. Very smooth! Its also built like a tank, but it is fairly compact and the pedal is not too high off the floor. I don't know if the company even exists anymore. I bought this one in 1980 or 1981. It cost like $125 way back then.

Yeah Ian...Jim had a analog delay going too and your right , it made the sound much better!
Bob, its funny you should mention the pedal steel. Jim plays one incredibly well . He is using a Ernie Ball volume pedal here. Your" built like a tank" analogy fits it too. 25(?) years on the road and still works fine.

I have no clue what you're all talking about but the music was great!

Nice work 79LP. Reminds me of the good old days on stage in the blue-colored air.
