Joyrider
This is a version of a song I wrote a while back, this is an experiment, me on Acoustic guitar, vocals and a basic reverb and delay as I wanted an echo effect, it's a bit different but hope you like it

Cool. I would like the guitar to be more forward in the mix though.

Cool song and nicely played and sung . The only thing i'd say is some of the vocals and effects were loud in some spots. You could try compressing the individual tracks to even them out. They say you shouldn't compress an acoustic but that sounded pretty even tho out anyway

It is quite a good tune so I'll try and bring it forward and back off the vocals a bit, I'm doing a different version with the new lyrics I've written and a break in it so I'll bring the guitar out of the background, thanks for listening Allthumbs

Glad you liked it Tom, thanks for the comments, I think a couple of verses were a bit low and like you say some vocals were a bit loud in places they weren't consistent, I've got a few compressor effects so I'll try them out on the rerecorded track, some of the effects will be taken off to give the guitar more space, thanks for listening Tom

Not to discount the actual song because I like it, but the beginning I think really makes the whole thing, kinda gets you into the "mood" of it all. Kinda seemed like a mix of some "Can't Drive 55" (burnout)and "Wish You Were Here"(the radio).
So what kind of stuff do you use for that and the mixing? I'm really thinking I might like to try something like that soon, then continue messing around with it as I improve(or if I improve LOL)

Hi Maddog I use a program called mixcraft 3, there's a Mixcraft 4 now which I'll probably upgrade to, I get new effects updated when they do some more and I have quite a lot now, glad you liked the effects, I like messing around with them but it does depend on the song, funny you should mention Wish you were here, I was watching a Pink Floyd Documentary the other night traced their beginnings with Syd Barret and beyond, they messed around with all sorts of effects apparently at one point Roger Waters wanted to make an entire album using kitchen utensils, the rest of the band had a go but thought it was a bit mad so it never happened I think their experimenting made them the great band that they were though, I heard a track from Syd Barret's second solo Album the other day and the guitar was played backwards with the vocals forwards, it was a bit strange but worked quite well. I know he was a bit unstable but he was a very clever guy, the band were lost for a while without him, I think it's good to experiment doesn't always work but good things can come out of messing around and it gives another angle to music so I'd encourage people to have a go. Here's a link if you want to check it out, effects can also be downloaded off the net if you look around a bit I do this if I want a certain sound
Mixcraft 4 - Affordable multi-track audio and MIDI recording software.
Best Wishes
Chris

Since we got on the Pink Floyd subject... Joyride does seem to have a bit of a Pink Floyd sound to it. I didnt want to say that earlier, but I really could see them doing that song.

One of my favourite tracks of theirs was Money off of Dark side of the moon , had a few good effects on it and they got some interesting and in someways remarkable results considering the technology available at the time, there's also a complete time signature change halfway through it for the guitar solo which is quite a rare one, definitely one of my favourite bands, I wouldn't object to being compared to them Maddog hopefully one day I can get some way to being like them in the studio but I'm not too sure if it will happen, I'll keep messing around though and trying to improve, just wish I'd started 30 years ago I'll be a pensioner before I perfect my sound I fear
All the Best
