Updated New Bossa

I posted this not long ago but here's my first attempt at adding percussion to a piece. I've still got a little (long) ways to go on the bongos (so kept the level fairly low on that track). Where's Tito Puente when you need him . Anyway there's an egg shaker in there and some sticks, er, claviers or whatever they're called. If you listen really closely right at the beginning you'll hear my dawg bark. He was outside. Never fails.

Very nice! The percussion worked out fine. I have toyed with getting some bongos, but I haven't made the move yet.

Very nice, Doug. Great progression and nice percussion.

I often just loop my home made percussion. I play along and find the best, steadiest, nicest measure, then copy that one measure and paste it as many bars as I need. I do that for each instrument and the result is a nice steady percussion track. Then I play along to the final percussion track again.

Thanks, everyone.
Kirk, I tried what you suggested and, man, it takes a bit of practice. I ended up with a garbled mess. It was pretty funny in an embarrassing kind of way.
So with this piece, I recorded about five minutes of my Dad's old electronic organ doing what it thought was a bossa rhythm. Then I played my guitar to that on a separate track. Then I added the sticks - I did what you said - I took the best section and replicated that. (I think I ended up with the sticks starting on the two instead of the one - oh well.) Then I added the shaker and finally the bongos. And then I deleted the organ track - actually, it's still there but really low.
It's gonna take a bit before I'm familiar with this - playing in time is hard enough. I'm gonna have to figure out how to start it all off - I just sort of faded the percussion in but the beginning is a bit rough.

Claves sounded real good. It is not that easy to get a real 'ping' from them - need to hold the left one somewhat loose but controlled. You did it well.
Nothing wrong with the bongos either. On those a 'ping' is also not easy - need to let fingers rebound instead of thunk. Somewhat like snapping a towel but snapping a finger (actually something more like snapping the wrist) - hard to explain.
Nice job - nice to listen to.

, I love it.

Yes, it is a tricky business. The program I use -- Audition -- make it a little easier that others to copy, paste, duplicate etc., but even there it took me a while to get it right. It's fun, though, to figure it all out and then finally to get something that works and feels right.

Thanks, Johnny. It took me a bit to find the sweet spot with the claves - I ended up whacking one right in the middle with the tip of the other - nice ping. The bongos need lots of work. I think maybe I'll take some lessons if I can find a good latin percussionist teacher.

Thanks , Mattz - it's real Doug, alright .

You're right, Kirk - it is a lot of fun (if a bit time consuming ).

Lovely laid back sound, very nicely played Doug. The dog must've barked in key because I didn't notice it and listenened an extra couple of times just for that!!

When all else fails, read the instructions.
