Chance To Say Goodbye

This has been an extreme exercise in patience. I have been wanting to get back at this song I wrote probably 25+ years ago when my grandfather was dying.

Anyway, here's my saga. First I didn't have anything to record with. So, I finally got a decent microphone for Christmas. Well, guess what...it doesn't work. I had to use an old Walmart microphone to record. I couldn't get Audacity or Krystal to record or play back the music. I discovered a conflict in the recording preferences with the help of google. However, it only works if I plug it directly into the sound card. I was trying to use my acoustic amplifier. Don't know why that wouldn't work.

So, here is my first recording ever. There was no editing done because I don't know how, but I want to learn. I am hoping to eventually add drums, bass, etc to "spice" it up.

Sorry about the voice. It sounds like I'm all plugged up, but I'm not. Could use a few voice lessons! The chorus is a bit strained at times, but I had just eaten and was sitting down (stuffed).

Let me know what you think.

Hmm....that didn't work. How to do you upload the file?

Thanks.

Nutty

P.S. Here are the lyrics.

Chance To Say Goodbye

It really seems like yesterday, when I was only three or four
I was sitting on your lap and you were telling me stories
And as the years went by, our memories grew fonder
You built a special place in my heart and now our times almost over.

Chorus:

O Lord if I only have the chance to say goodbye
I know our time is coming, but it seemed to fly right by
I really need to tell him goodbye.

All the memories of you and me are still in my mind
All the things you did for me and how you are so kind
I know it's hard living far apart from the family
But please remember Grandpa, your thoughts are always with me.

Chorus:

When the time has to come for you to part
Please remember Grandpa, the feelings are still in my heart.

Chorus:

I think I have it this time. I think I didn't wait long enough last time for it to upload. Plus, I found Clancy's instructions!

Nutty

Gee, it's not my day. That's an older recording I thought I "taped" over. Oh well, it's still the right song. The other one wasn't a whole lot better. I hope to improve on it with your feedback....thanks Nutty

You sure paid your dues on that one. Nice tune. I hope you re-record it when you get your recording stuff in order.

Thanks allthumbs,

I do hope to re-record. I have harmony for the song as well, but I have to learn how to do that. I figure I have to make anther track with the harmony and somehow mix the two together. I hope to get my daughter to play bass as well. Maybe someone can help me along? I used Audacity to record this track.

It'll be a work in progress for a while I think, but a wonderful learning experience for me.

Nutty,
That was nice. A bit difficult to hear on my end. When your redo it
bring the volumes up or watch you recording level meter to get it as high as possible without going into the red zone.

Really a sweet tune Nutty
I hope you don't mind my having a shot at this, but your vox sounded so good I couldn't help myself. If your unhappy about it, maybe I can bribe a Mod to remove it Very nice lyrics btw

Congratulations on your first recording Nutty you've done a really good job, it isn't easy, I've had a few problems with recording but for your first this is good, it's better than mine but I'm slowly improving and the Members here will help you out with any problems.

The song is a very good song, I enjoyed listening to it, I liked the lyrics, nice tune and singing, you'll find your voice will get stronger as you do more recordings, you overcame a lot of problems to get this on and thanks for posting it, great to hear you

Cheers

Chris

Wow! Thanks everyone. At first I was afraid to post the song, but now I am even more keen to work on it. I'll keep you posted as I progress. I played it for one of my sisters years ago and she started crying, so I never played it for anyone since then (until now that is).

Thanks Kenny for "touching" it up. Right now, I know how to hit the record button and that's it.

Thanks again.

Nutty

Recording, like the guitar Nutty, it just takes time...
Glad your not disappointed with my attempt, when using filters to any music you tend to lose the original sound but it was your voice I was trying to hone in on......very nice vox you have and those lyrics are definitly heart felt...again good job, and looking forward to hearing more from you!

Haven't listened yet, but the lyrics are nice. Reminds me of my grand folks and my mom. Keep up the good work! Blessings, Adrienne
