The Internet

Here's a take on a song I posted the other day, thought I'd have a go at it, all feedback welcome I've had some problems with background noise so feedback on recording would be great

Cheers

Chris

Chris,
Nice tune. Now lets get to the recording. It is thin in the mix. I can only assume that you are using 1 mic for both the guitar and vocals.
Try doing the guitar track and then a vocal track. I think it will give you better results.
Playing and singing is just fine, a very nice tune and lyric.

Nice tune Chris, each postings sound is getting better. I think Eddies got a good tip for you there. But overall this is your best to date keep after it.

There was some distortion, did you use that noise removal tool? The tune was good though, i like your voice and you seem to have a way with putting down lyrics, good job

That was a good job Chris, great tune. I agree that the mix was a little thin and this cut the vocals, but sounding good.

Thanks for having a listen Eddiez, yes it's just me a guitar and a Mic. I'll do that, I think I need to focus on improving the recordings more and doing some mixing practice, I haven't tried mixing with Drums and keyboards yet so it should be interesting.

Thanks Kenny, got that hiss down a bit, so there's some improvement but I've still got a bit of work to do, there's a lot to this recording lark

Hi Tom, I used the noisegate to get rid of some of the hiss on the recording but I think I paid a price for that, I love songwriting but I want to broaden my horizons a bit as my songs are mostly strummed at the moment, I might try a bit of fingerpicking on the next one.

Thanks Knight, I'm making progress slowly, I'm going to concentrate on getting better quality recordings for a while, I think it's the same as guitar playing, got to keep practicing

Thanks for all the feedback and comments guys, it is really appreciated, glad you liked it

Best Wishes

Chris

starsailor,
Don't worry about drums and all those other things. They are just fluff that makes music.
Just mic the vocals and guitar independently and see what you come up with. Your singing voice is just fine and your playing will improve right along with the rest of us.

We as members should all take notice of original work done here as it does not come easy. The seasoned folks in guitar started the same as all of us right from the beginning. Their devotion made them what they are today. DARN GOOD.
So like some of us just keep working at it.
One person comes to mind. Tom123........always exploring the next thing I admire him for that.

Thanks for your support Eddiez, and the good advice, I might go over the songs I've done, sharpen them up a bit for practice, I've also got a couple of songs I'm working on, so I'll carry on writing with just the acoustic which is what I enjoy the most, I've also got my electro-acoustic set up for slide but I haven't done much of that recently so I might have a go at that as well, I like Toms music he is good

All the Best

Chris

Nice song. Definitely deserves a rework as you get your recording skills down. The playing and vocals were good.

Nice one- parts in it reminded me a bit of the Beatles (always a good thing in my book!).
As far as the recording goes- you're just getting started on the learning curve. Keep doing your research and getting tips and that will come along as well. You have to remember that recording/mixing is like playing yet another instrument.

Thanks for having a listen Chris and for the comments , appreciate them, I don't mind sounding a bit like the Beatles, that's a bonus, I've got to get to grips with the recording, there is a lot to it though

Cheers

Chris

A lovely tune Chris and your vocals are spot on, it's a shame they're a bit muffled, could you post the lyrics so I can follow the story? Thanks.
When you look in to mixing take a look at panning I'm sure your recordings will benefit from that - it just means that you can move parts of your recording around e.g. you could move the vocals to the left a bit and the guitar to the right, the effect is that we'd hear your voice a bit more pronounced in the left speaker and your guitar a little better in the right. It's perfectly possible to pan voice only to one side and guitar only to the other but it doesn't sound good.
If I can help with anything drop me a pm or pop into chat sometime.

When all else fails, read the instructions.

Thanks for having a listen John, I like this song, thanks for the advice as well, I've had some helpful feedback off this thread, some of the lyrics were a bit muffled so I'll go with what you and Eddiez suggest and switch to seperate tracks, I think Kenny told me to do that a while back as well, Hope you're well and as usual great to hear from you, here's a link to the Lyrics, this song was written quite quickly but the lyrics seem to work and it's a nice song to play as it's pretty straightrforward.

All the best

Chris
