On My Way - new original tune
Hey all- here's the first original I've recorded using my new equipment. I'm ecstatic about how clear everything sounds now. It sounds to my ears like a quantum leap towards a professional sound- hopefully your ears will say the same.
In any case, this is a song that I had the music for in about 15 minutes or so, then the lyrics came in about a 30 minute rush a couple days later. I spent several hours today getting it recorded and mixed down, etc.
I appreciate comments in regards to the sound quality, mix suggestions, etc. One thing in particular that I constantly struggle with is overdoing the bass. Let me know how it sounds- Thanks!
Chris

I'm no expert chris but that's a great song and the recording quality is a very high standard, you could back off on the bass a little bit to let the great vocals shine through but it's a real dance in the aisles song, a fine piece of work

the bass is fine dude. you need to support your vocals more, from the diaphragm....the "I'm on my way" needs more umph. it kind sounds like a little stretch for ya..great song, good road trip song. a little banjo maybe? sounds like you had fun doing it, don't overwork it too much. relax and let the vocals happen. great guitar work and you should be proud of this one...

Chris, I'm sure you know that experimenting with different surroundings can make a world of difference, so I think you should send it to me for some additional testing
Actually this is one of only a few I've heard from here that actually sounded just as good thru the cans as the monitor....I personally can't find anything displeasing or even nit-picky worth saying.....Very well put together.
Edit, I was speaking of the presonus, but feel free to send whatever you want me to test

Fantastic song, can't find anything wrong with it, maybe tone down the solo a bit, but your right, it was like listening to the radio on a country station. Your on your way cshude

Firstly a great toe tapping song and some great guitar playing, thank you for sharing.
As for the quality I am not the best judge but it sounded great you can really hear small details and there is so much pressence.
I look forward to album release (I hope you release one)

Thank you, everyone, for the comments. Glad to hear that it sounds good to you. One thing that can be very frustrating about recording/mixing is that it can sound great to your ears on your system, but absolutely horrible on someone else's should you have the opportunity to listen there.
I went back and did a remix on this yesterday to try to bring up the vocals (especially the harmonies) a little bit. I think I might try to do some retakes on the vocals as well. The voice wasn't in top shape the day I recorded this and I was getting pressed for time as well. Anyhoo, here's the remixed version:

Nice Remix Chris, the vocal sounds a lot sharper, it is a professional recording, if this was released as a record I would buy it, the song has a real feelgood factor

To me the vocals sounds too sharp now, I am at work listening on a cheap headphone so it might be that but I did prefer the vocals on version A

I listened to both again and it was hard to tell much difference except the vocals being a bit more upfront. I don't think it sounded like your voice wasn't in "top shape" i think it was some of the best vocals i've heard from ya. Believe or not sometimes when your feeling a little tired, or off, is when you put out good vocals because your thinking less about it

I appreciate the input, folks- this mixing this sure is tricky! I had a chance to take a listen today in the car with the mp3 player and the acoustic guitar was barely audible, and the rhythm was very sharp sounding. Vocals sounded pretty good as far as level goes.
Well, back to the 'ol drawing board....
