What "dead" strings sound like
Sorry to ugly up the forum with this but since my regular guitar is in the shop for awhile I got the idea to rummage through the storage room and dig out my sucky old Harmony and play it. It is about 55 years old and has been put away for many years. It's the one I'm holding in my Avatar and that photo was made in the late sixties.
So here is what really dead strings sound like. If you can't stand it I'll understand if you click it off and move on.

Hey Chammon,
First. A beautiful melody.
Those "dead" strings don't sound as dead as you might think. And not only that, as I have recently found out, a little upper end EQ on a set of dead strings will put the sparkle right back in them.
Well played!
Ditto what X said!

So the strings are over 35 years old? I like dead strings, not better then new ones but they don't bother me. I recently played an old martin acoustic that was at my sisters house from the 70's, with the same strings. It sounded fine to me but the action was about 5 miles high....nice tune

You got a real Chet Atkins vibe going there. That was nice.
Sounded pretty good on this end, nice playing.

Dead strings on a not-so-great guitar in the hands of someone who can really play ALWAYS sounds better than a great guitar in the hands of a bumbler! Sounded very good to me, all things considered.

That was great Chammon, nice arrangement, dead strings come alive when you play them.

Thank you all for the kind comments and a special thanks to you LC for the EQ tip. I never thought of that.
I'm getting my Taylor out of hock today. Yippee!! The old Harmony is all cleaned and lubed and ready to be put away. Maybe it will have value to my grandkids someday. It is near mint, but I did mess up when I changed out the original pickups long ago. BIG mistake.

I agree - I wish I could play half as well as you, and even then (on good strings) you'd blow me away. Great job!
