An Indian Tune - Figured out by Ear.
Hi friends,
I hope i'm not boring you guys too much by posting my recordings here often . I dunno why but its a very nice feeling when your friends comment and appreciate you . I feel after joining this forum , this feature has improved a great deal on my confidence and desire to play. So please bear with me and gimme your comments if possible.
Here's an Indian Song, which i figured out by ear, (dunno if i'm in the right key though ) ! I feel practicing like this does do good to our ear-development, (though i may not be exactly on target).
(SORRY I KNOW THAT YOU'RE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE MELODY HERE, BUT I GUESS MUSIC HAS NO LANGUAGE, IT BY ITSELF IS A GREAT LANGUAGE)

That was great Kush. I could really hear an indian feel going on in there. Once you figure out the key and chords you could put some droning bass notes in there to really make it sing. That is a keepr. Congrats. I have been meaning to ask you what would a sitar cost in your country. I love the sound of those .

Hey Kush, technically I can't tell you anything about that tune since I don't know enough to do so. What I can tell you is that it hits the sweet-spot on my eardrums and takes me back to my childhood in Durban, South Africa. Durban, and indeed the province of Natal, is home to one of the largest group of Indians, outside of India.
Thanks.

Yeah, the backing would help- Are you from that part of the world?
Don't they use quarter tones in that music (More than 12 notes to the scale?) I know for fact they do in some parts of the world.
I have a friend that puts modified plastic wire ties around his guitar neck to "add frets" needed to play the 1/4 tones. They play music for belly dancers.

Thank you so much for your kind words, Marty. I too really love the Sitar's sound, (though i've never played one, but my Mom say's she had learnt it for a few months , when she was very young) Actually there are'nt any music stores near my town and i have to travel a great deal to get there. But, i'm going to one very soon (maybe within 10 - 15 days) for getting myself a new acoustic, i'll surely enquire and reply to you.
Thanks and Regds

Its an Indian Movie song, i wish i could attach a file for you to hear it, but its against the forum rules . Actually its a vocal song and the fast thing is a riff that comes in the song.

Glad you mentioned that allthumbs, cos I've been meaning to ask Kush if he plays the sitar. I've heard some of Ravi Shankir's music over the years, and I must say Indian music appeals to me, particularly Raga music.
Well played Kush, I enjoyed that very much. Keep posting mate (but don't forget to eat and sleep occasionally as well).
By the way, I know you live near the middle of India, but what's the name of your village or town?
Cheers, Geoff

Thank You so much for appreciating Geoff . I'm from a town called Erode, in south-India. (Actually its in the lower-end of India, which i had wrongly placed in the google-map) I dont play the sitar, but i like the sound of it. Actually i'm more inclined towads western music, rather than Indian-Classical music .

Hi Kush,
That is a cool tune. I'm not too familiar with indian music but this has a richness in melodic and rhythmic movement that is pleasing to listen to. Good work assimilating the line! It seems a bit complicated to me.
