Requiem For A Summer Rain - instrumental
Well, I was horsing around and took out the old Ibanez and tuned it for a little Nashville Tuning. For those that are not familiar with Nashville Tuning, it's a trick used for acoustic guitar. Take the octave strings from a set of 12 strings and string up your six string. It's a trick used to make your 6 sting sound like a 12 strings. If you have an extra acoustic doing nothing, get a $3.00 set of Light Gauge 6 & 12's strings. Use the normal high E & B string from the 6 pack and put them in their normal position. Then take the unwound strings from the 12 pack and finish up. The low E will be using a wound string from the 12 pack. Here's the sizes you need, High E to Lo E:
E 10
B 14
G 9 (or 10)
D 12
A 18
E 27 (or 30)(wound)
In this Requiem For A Summer Rain, the Nashville Tuned guitar is dead center. (I didn;t really mess with the mix, so you'll probably hear a thump or two.
Requiem For A Summer Rain [3.8Mb @ 3:59]
Enjoy. And be sure to try out that setup on an extra ax.

Hey Tom.
Thanks!
Yes. I guess you could say it's original. I just sorta started picking and that's where it went. It wasn't planned.
**
On another note, when I recorded the Nashville tuned Ibanezr, it was way tinny. So for you recording dudes out there, I used two mics. One condenser positioned angled from the headstock pointing to about the 12th fret. I wanted/needed more depth to the sound of the Ibanez. The second mic is a trick. I used a cardiod dynamic. I wanted a subtle lower end to come out. Placing the mic at the bridge was way too much. So to get what I wanted, I wrapped the mic over my shoulder and across the back of my neck and let the mic dangle directly behind the guitar where the bridge would be on the front. That really brought out the sweet tone for that Ibanez.
My point? Try every conceivable position with your mic's when you record. You'll be surprised what you can find! You don't have to be text book!

Nice! The sound and style of the tune has 'frailing' feel to it too.

Really sweet sound, and Really nice playing. Can imagine an almost whisper type vocal with this.

Thanks Folks!
Doc Trev.... 6 deep into a 12. Rock. I love acoustic space music. I was too harsh on this recording. I should have laid back a bit. But what can ya do when yer fingers go after it like a hammer?
AT ...thanks!
Chammon, interesting you would mention frailing. Do you frail? I do a bit of old timey clawhammer myself. I've tried frailing the guitar. Apparently I'm just not that coordinated!
Ted-mon. Awesome! Pod away man.
X4..... I challenge .... You write. We both play!
Thanks again......

Just noticed the frailing comment and I have tried it, but it sounds like I'm not doing it right. Your playing on this recording sounds a bit like a lap dulcimer. Well done LC.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
