My footprints take.
I did a take of this tune quite a while ago. It has clams in it too which is the nature of doing improv, making it up as you go along. The idea is you don't fix anything. One recording all the way through. I posted this mainly to point out a few things being talked about in a thread on soloing. Like Sid,I thought in terms of chords not scales. That is why our approach melodicaly sounds so different. If we were playing this with scales our takes would sound much more alike. I love the freedom and melodic choices this way of thinking provides me. Playing boxes and scale patterns is like being in a musical prison for me.
BTW I used my Allykat semi hollow axe for this.

It is a Backtrack of a famous jazz piece I found on the net. It was on The Gear Page forum I believe. Jazz purists are not amused by us putting our own melodies over it, but that is where the fun is, puting your own spin on a tune. They went nuts when Kirk played slide over it. Har.

You can do both. Googling for bts will take you to bt forums for the most part. I like jazzy oddball bts so I need to look a little harder, but if you want hard rock, blues or metal bts then bt forums are the way to go.

Fabulous footprints allthumbs. You must have been playing for years. Are you a professional musician?

Not at all. I went from being basicly a tab player to being able to improv in less than a year thanks to Kirks' Plane Talk materials. I think Sid would say the same thing.

When your ready to buy Kirks' stuff you will see why one of the most common reactions is laughing with delight for months as you start to be able to do things musicaly that you thought were beyond you.

Try powertab sites and guitarpro sites. Those would be your best bets

When you can do all the things I listed in another post to you about P.T. Bar chords, tunes and fretboard comfort are needed first. Not for beginners. When you have that, your ready.

Thanks allthumbs.
I have already bought Kirk's PT book and have really enjoyed reading through it. Even though I'm not ready yet, I got the general picture, and even that quick preview has helped me start understanding the bigger picture.
Bit of feedback for you, Kirk, if you happen to read this, I really like the way you presented it.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
Buy it now for only $10 |
