A Bruce Cockburn Cover
Well, the melody line anyway. This song is called All the Ways I Want You and it's off of his Dart To The Heart album. It's such a simple progression - I's, IV's and V's - but I find the melody is really beautiful. I hope I captured at least a bit of the feel.
It's over on my soundclick account...

I liked that, Doug, very much... I don't know the original tune, so I don't know if it was the cover or your version of the tune, anyway, well played!!!

Very nice Doug. I didn't know anyone else around here knew about BC - I've been a fan of his for years. Thanks for posting.

Thanks again everyone. Carol, I think Bruce is probably more popular here in Canada than elsewhere (which is not always the case with Canadian artists) - I think he's been too political in the past to be popular on American radio.
He's an amazing guitarist.
I've posted a second version of the song on soundclick this time in E.

Very nice version Doug. Some of my favourite BC songs are One Day I Walk in Diamonds, Dialogue with the Devil, Pacing the Cage and he does a killer version on Chimes of Freedom with Youssou N'Dour. The McGarrigles are (yet) another Canadian singer/songwriter(s) that are terrific, and of course Leonard Cohen - the list is endless when you come to think of it. (oops, forgot Kirk )
I've never managed to play a BC song properly - too difficult for me (as yet )

Hi Carol,
I spent a bit of time looking for Youssou N'Dour and Bruce's version of Chimes of Freedom - can you tell what album it's on?
I've always been a fan of Bruce Cockburn. In the early 70's he toured small towns in the Ottawa valley and played at my high school - his dog joined him on stage. I've seen him a number of times since then. He can be a bit heavy at times. I remember seeing him at a concert dedicated for a land mine free world and hearing people behind me in the hall, saying "lighten up, Bruce!". Of course, they were there to see John Prine.
I like Kate and Anna McGariggle as well - although I haven't heard from them lately. Kate's kids seem to be doing well, though - Rufus and Martha Wainwright.
If you're interested in a compilation of Canadian songs, I'd recommend KD Lang's "Hymns of the 49th Parallel". It has two Leonard Cohen songs, Neil Young, Joni Mitchel, Jane Siberry, and Bruce Cockburn. I find it a bit over produced but KD Lang has impeccable intonation - she is an amazing singer. If you have iTunes on your PC - I use it and I don't even have an iPod - you can check it out very easily.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
