I'm Missing You These Days - reloaded ;)

Hey Guys,

Did a little rework on this tune. Put the new Gretsch to work! Hope you like it. Mood music.

Very nice Les!
Love the sound of the Gretsch. The chorus effect compliments it nicely.

Les,
Now thats a recording. Super through out.
Vocals are great and tones just right. And everything in the right place.
That is what I want to achieve ! Some day.
Your right there in the music and not part of the guitars. Try the same on your previous tune -End of the line.

Hey LC, the guitar sounds soooo good, but...and I hope not to alienate you, I thought the vocals were better in the first take you posted. Just sounded more from within you if that makes sense, that and the levels{more balanced sounding to me} are what causes me to choose the first one IMO. Then again...who am I to say, I can't even play a complete tune yet. Do luv the tune though

Hey thanks guys. The music turned out pretty good. I tried to give it that ethereal sound.

Vocals......the bane of recording engineers. Vocals are the hardest piece of the equation to record. It doesn't matter how good your equipment is, if the vocalist is having hard time then it's best to record at a later date.

Like with my voice. I'm all over the place depending on what key I'm in, what mood I'm in, what I've been drinking ( pop, coffee, water, beer .. what ever), smoking, sinuses ... it's a real problem. I haven't disciplined myself with vocals. I take them as they come and that's been problematic in recording. Coupled with the fact I'm still learning the hardware capabilities and well, I get mixed bag of vocal results.

I agree X, the vocals on the first recording are recorded much better. After going back and listening, I had a higher level and a bit more natural reverb on the first recording. I'll try and duplicate that!

Thanks folks for listening and offering your advice and thoughts.

Nice recording, interesting about the voice thing
i notice that myself. Your voice in the morning
will sometimes give a different sound then at nite.
I was kinda playin along to this down at the 5th fret
it was sounding good....good job

Thanks for that LC, I hadn't even thought of those things affecting the outcome, I'll have to pay more attention when I record myself, to see what serves me best.

Ok,
Had a chance to compare going back and forth between the too.
LC's retake sounds more studio done. They both have their plus
points. However, The bass in the second version complements the vocals.

This version is a big improvement in every respect Les, well done.

As vocal cords are normally in use during the day they tighten up and become shorter giving the voice a higher frequency, just as shortening a guitar string produces a higher pitched note. At night they relax and lengthen producing that distinctive gruff morning voice (and that's just the wife).

This is what I've been saying. The contrast between the guitar and LC's voice. Adding the bass added to the contrast in the vocal.
OK, its just my ears then.
