In spite of ourselves - John Prine marathon

Ok folks,
I though I would try this, but will probably need a re take.
This mixing stuff is a challenge.
A John Prine tune with Iris DeMent.
Elle does the female part and I do the male part and guitar.

Fantastic Eddie and Elle
Eddie, your picking is really sweet! Elle your voice suits the song perfectly.

Maybe Elle's voice should be brought forward a little bit.

LMAO Eddie...LOVE IT! You have just the right voice for this...now we have to do it the other way around! You lay down the guitar track, and even your vocals, and I come in on the parts I'm to do...

That might fix the timing, cuz you know my vocals were exactly set when I did them! I have to sing to the guitar track for it to match.

Any idea why my vocals sound stepped back, or subdued, a bit? I have time today, if you're around...LOL

Thanks everybody.

Elle's voice sounded just like Iris DeMent. I had to compliment it a lower voice tone. That was to try to take each of out tracks and play to the voices. The next one will be done with the music tracks first then the vocals. I thought this would be a funny surprise. Any parts that went slightly out of time probably had to do with recording latency.
This was fun indeed, and the next one I will play it in a slightly faster temo.
Thanks Elle for a wonderful sound track, you did a terrific job.
And Elle, when I mixed them the first time, The program would not allow me to bring the volumes up or down to remix.
I will try to do this again from the originals.

**

You know that is just about the best recording I've heard in a long time. Very clean.... no fuss, no muss. You guys nailed it down on this take. Great guitar playing!. Excellent vocals. Both of you guys did a great job. Elle, I swear you sounded just like Iris. And Eddie, I'm going to start call you Doc Eddie!

Very cool.

mattz196,hilch,skinny,jomi,tomg123,X4string,knight , what a crew,
thanks to all of you.
Elle I am gonna do this over starting with your vocals, I don't have enough growl in my voice for JP, gonna try holding an acorn in my mouth on the next take. If that don't work right, then I will do the music and we'll sing to it instead. Its a great funny tune and I love doing it although I do play it a tiny bit faster though when I do it but I can't get the Iris part without you.

Les,
Elle was right on with the voice wasn't she. She did a great job. I knew she would be perfect for this part. The timing to the original was pretty darn close.

Thanks Les

Man - that guitar sounds great. And do I detect a little country in that city boy? It was fun to listen to Dad. I guess you really don't need that Lowden anymore right now. Wanna trade a vintage 12 string gibson for it? Ha!

Gee Todd burst my bubble the way your father sings and plays I figured he was from the country! , I have always had this vision of Eddie sitting on the porch ,playing as he watches the sun go down over his ranch.
