Cheap Blues

I was very curious about the $49.99 Rogue Starter Acoustics over at Musician's Friend, but never enough to drop $50 on one without trying it. Then, a few weeks back they had it listed as a "Stupid Deal" at $29.99. I was ordering something else, so adding it to my cart made me eligible for a $20 gift certificate, bringing the price down to $9.99 shipped to my door...that I couldn't pass up.

The guitar arrives, I replace the strings with some D'Addario EJ16's, and am well impressed with my $10 guitar.

Although a little boxy sounding, the guitar plays cleanly all the way up the neck...no buzzing, and the action is perfect. Intonation could be better, but nothing to lose sleep over. I find that the inherent boxy tone it produces lends itself best to the blues...it just has that old time sound to it.

I've attached a sample in G.

And here's a glamor shot of her ...

"Ten-dollar blues" - sounds like a good name for a song!

That was real nicely played, Dobro. Great score on the guitar, too....she ain't bad lookin' at all, and she sings pretty.

Darn... I saw that same deal at MF and I thought about doing the same thing but I wasn't 100% sure. I am looking for a 'camp guitar'. And a decent $50 guitar would do the trick. I will have to watch out for another sale at MF...

Loved the MP3.

Dobro - is it a full sized guitar or a small body (3/4)? Is this the same guitar? Buy Rogue Starter Acoustic Guitar online at Musician's Friend

Thanks guys.

Yes bluesguy, that's the same guitar. Hopefully the quality is consistent. I think it would make a great camp guitar. It stays in tune extremely well, feels and sounds good, is lightweight, and won't break the bank if a bear takes off with it.

The body size is about that of a standard classical guitar with a depth of only 3 7/8", and the neck joins the body at the 12th fret, so it's a little smaller than a dreadnought, but the scale is standard.

Here's another clip of it as long as I've got your attention.

Doesn't seem like a "stupid deal" at all! Sounds like a great one for you! Nice playing.
