Some improv to critique

OK, I recently recorded this at my PC all through line in, directly from my guitar into my computer. The tone is pretty much awful. At least I think so. Hopefully the playing isn't completely awful, it was one of two attempts over a simple backing I made a few minutes prior to the improf.

I don't do much improf over actual chord progressions, so my lack of experiance shows through quite a bit.

I want to know how I can improve my improf, so thats where you guys come in. Listen, and then tell me what worked well, and much more importantly what didn't. Tell me what I should've done instead.

EDIT: oh, I guess I should include the actual MP3. Oops.

We'll find our settings eventually.

Just keep at it . I'm still trying to play with "eyes closed "; where you actually play whats going through your emotive mind and not just a bunch of patterns. Having said that I had to learn patterns by the dozens and befor I could shut my eyes I had to play them countless times with eyes open and still do. I think you might try listening to the BT a section at a time, say four bars. Then sing an improv out loud untill you get something you really like. The work at finding those notes( and don't forget the phraseing) on the guitar. I do this alot. It helps me. Johnbullard

Yeah, sorry about the sound quality.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah, its hard not to get stuck in patterns. I'm still working on this exact thing.

I'll give that a try. I'm a little shy with singing, so maybe when no one is in the house. Thanks for the suggestion, it should be helpful.

I'll continue to post more improf I think.

Oh, and I record through Kristal Audio. Then I Export it to audacity, and use the Mp3 encoder. It works decent, I guess. I'll post a short improf thing I did a while ago that shows how the tone is when its from an amp, then into the computer. The difference is huge.

Thanks again guys.

tsidewinder,
Audio was a bit muffled but I thought the playing was nice. Some very cool licks.

The playing was good, pump some overdrive into the guitar it and it would sound great.

Recording is a bit muffled, best I can make out is that this is two tracks, the rythm part is a bit louder than the lead part, I think you should change that around - make the lead a bit louder. Can you do that in audacity?
Playing is good with some really nice parts, nice one tsidewinder, keep going.

Thanks guys. Yeah, i think I could change the lead to be a bit louder in audacity. For the next bit of improf I do, I'll do that.

When I use the VST's for overdrive, it lags and I can't time things good at all. When I get the V-amp I'll put some distortion in.

Thanks again for your input people. I really appreciate it.

I think that V-Amp is going to do wonders for your recording. I liked the playing, especially the use of bends.
