A while back I asked Fretsource if he had an arrangement of a Scottish song known as 'The Dark Island'. He didn't but he was kind enough to take the time to make an arrangement of it and send me the tab. So I just wanted to post a version of it to show that I really appreciated the arrangement and I did actually learn it. It is also to say thanks for all the great lessons, the informative posts and the good tunes that he's posted here on the forum.
I've made a few changes to Fretsource's arrangement. I've added my own intro and also took a few bits and pieces I heard from another version. Finally I added another traditional tune on to the end; they just seemed to go well together.
A few flubs and mistakes here and there but hopefully it's listenable at least.
Very nice 6. Beautiful.
I will second that. Fretsource is a real friend and asset to our community. His lessons and patience in answering questions is very appreciated .
Thanks everyone. Jomi, I didn't tab out the intro and, I'm embarrassed to say, during a recent purge of my inbox I must have deleted the tab for the main song by accident. I'm not sure if Fretsource still has a copy of it?
The only thing I can help you out with is the tune I added on right at the end. It's a traditional tune usually known as Comin' thro' the rye as it is most often song with the words of that particular Burns poem. The arrangement I came up with for it is very simple (C F and G). The tab has a few timing issues but hopefully it'll be of some use to you.
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
