The Dark Island (for Fretsource)

Hi all,

A while back I asked Fretsource if he had an arrangement of a Scottish song known as 'The Dark Island'. He didn't but he was kind enough to take the time to make an arrangement of it and send me the tab. So I just wanted to post a version of it to show that I really appreciated the arrangement and I did actually learn it. It is also to say thanks for all the great lessons, the informative posts and the good tunes that he's posted here on the forum.

I've made a few changes to Fretsource's arrangement. I've added my own intro and also took a few bits and pieces I heard from another version. Finally I added another traditional tune on to the end; they just seemed to go well together.

A few flubs and mistakes here and there but hopefully it's listenable at least.

Great job Simon. I'm proud of you.
The synth flute counterpoint was an inspired touch too. (Wish I'd thought of that)

And thanks all for the kind comments too about my contributions. It's a real privilege to be involved with this site and all the great people here.

Thanks everyone. Jomi, I didn't tab out the intro and, I'm embarrassed to say, during a recent purge of my inbox I must have deleted the tab for the main song by accident. I'm not sure if Fretsource still has a copy of it?

The only thing I can help you out with is the tune I added on right at the end. It's a traditional tune usually known as Comin' thro' the rye as it is most often song with the words of that particular Burns poem. The arrangement I came up with for it is very simple (C F and G). The tab has a few timing issues but hopefully it'll be of some use to you.

Very nicely done, Simon. That flute coming in really did it for me, really captured the authenticity of the genre.

Fretsource, you're a huge asset to GfB&B. Thanks so much for your input here.

Excellent Si16. The piece is a lot more complicated than it sounds at first listen.
Auld Lang Syne at the end was a nice touch.
