Test

Well just lookin for some feedback on the sound quality here. I purchased an electric acoustic bout a month ago. I found this cable at radio shack that plugs into guitar and my in-line (different size ends) so this is simply the guitar plugged directly in to computer. Now that i know my in-line works the next step is a mixer and new mic (may be another month or so).....Anyway don't expect to be too entertained by this (or anytime i play its just a sample

I was told a few times on the forum i should get a better mic along with a mixer with a preamp. I currently have a $30.00 condensor mic with no stand, its plastic. Of course could be with the preamp in the mixer it wouldn't matter don't know

I also noticed when i use mono mix or sterio mix i can record with mic, and at the same time with in-line. One question if someone knows......with the mixer is there just one cable that needs to run from the mixer to the in-line and everything else plugs into the mixer including the mic?

and thanks all for the feedback

Tomg123,
I'm not an expert on recording but I can tell you that my preamp connects to the line-in and there are no other connections to the pc. The mic OR guitar can then be plugged into the preamp.
The preamp instructions say it's best not to connect BOTH the mic and guitar at the same time as one will tend to attenuate (opposite of amplify) the other.

I use adobe auditions (pc software) for mixing instead of hardware.

Your $30 condensor mic could well be all you need once you connect it via a preamp. (or mixer with built in preamp)

hope this helps,

John

Tom - if you get a mixer, you can plug your mic directly into it (along with guitars and other instruments, mp3 players, etc). If you're going to connect a condenser mic, make sure the mixer supplies +48v "phantom power" - most condenser mics need that or they won't work.

You might want to check out my post HERE in the Home Studio forum - the one I just bought doesn't even need a connection to the line-in on your soundcard, it goes straight to USB.

Your recordings sound good so you know more then me. What i use now was just so i could record, the word preamp never entered my brain. So it looks like my mixer with a preamp should just go into 'line-in'. I will have to look into the mic and guitar plugged in at the same time. Wonder if that means its best to just play into the mic alone maybe next to amp if plugged in?

thanks jomi

Thanks strat, clearifies things more. I think i saw what your talkin about, it acts as the sound card or something. Is USB something you record on other then the computer, then transfer? i'll check your thread out tho

Thanks cold, no effects on it and being plugged directly in it seems to not have a hissy sound just the guitar. This was different to me from all the room noise
