Easy fun solo - Genesis
Solo from the Genesis album "Selling England by the Pound". Just learned to play it this weekend after stumbling across someone on youtube playing it. Got it from a Guitar Pro tab. I put the real song on the left channel and me on the right.
This is the kind of stuff that make guitar playing so much fun for me. Even though my timing isn't spot on I thought I'd post it anyway. I've always been a huge Genesis fan of the Peter Gabriel era. So to play this on the guitar is a real treat for me.
This is my Fullerton strat thru a Russian Big Muff, into the clean channel of my Peavey Bandit 112, miced into the mixer then computer with a bit of reverb at the mixer.

The playing was good fly and the recording was clear, the timing a tad off but a tad on too overall nice sound. That separation was a good idea

Nice. I would of never heard the timing thing if you didn't mention it.

Nice Fly, You had the sound thing going and as far as timing goes I'm in the same boat. You are on the right path. Thanks for posting and keep them coming

Yeah, if you want to know how bad your timing is, then just play along with something. I'm trying to get myself to start playing along with the real songs so I can improve that.
knight, I've got no complaints about my Fullerton. It's a real nice guitar for even double the price. Which is still crazy cheap.

Just gave it a listen, Fly - great job, and definitely no probs with the tone out of that Fullerton! You said that you used a Big Muff on this one.....did you have it on the whole time, or did you just step on it for the more distorted part at the end? I've never heard a Big Muff sound as clean and chimey as the first part of the song - it sounds more like chorus or a light octaver effect than a Big Muff!

Stratrat, I had the Big Muff on and settings are static throughout the song. I'm using the neck pickup with the tone turned all the way down (high cut) to smooth out the sound. The reverb injected at the mixer adds to the effect. At the end are double stops that have some dissonance, which crunches up the tone a bit.

Cool. I had a Big Muff when I was a teenager, and I've always associated it more with that real fuzzy Hendrix-type sound - I wasn't much into the clean sound back then, so I guess I never experimented with turning the drive and sustain down!

Actually the sustain was maxed. It's turning the tone control on the guitar all the way down that makes it sound like that.
