City of New Orleans
Here you go folks. It's my first vocal mp3.
Steve Goodman's "City of New Orleans." I just love that song. It's so American. [And, America is a pretty good place].
What I was trying to do this time was just get the song recorded. I'll start working on the phrasing, the Bm chord and developing the wind power.
My plan is to start playing in a tavern next June.
Let me know what you think.

Good effort, its not easy to fingerpick a song like all the way through. I fooled around with this song too but just strummed through the chords. Try a strummed version then go back to fingerpick, play around with it

Your playing is pretty smooth. A little more polishing. You need to project your voice more. Might be just a confidence thing. Once you have a couple of gigs under your belt, your comfort level should go up. A couple of basic voice lessons might help. You have the time.

Nice job! Like Mr. Thumbs mentioned, a little more polishing and this will be very professional.

Good Job, would you care to share the tabs, or point me in the right direction?

I got the lyrics and chord notations over at chordie dot com. [I'm too new here to post the url]. Hit the Browse songs tab and click on the C's. Then you refine the search with the alphabetized selections at the bottom of the page.
Once you get the page with the song on it, you can change the key it's in with the handy transposer on the right.

Bkeeble, did you find finger picking tabs on that site or did you make something up? I only found chord charts.

I guess I made up the picking pattern. It's just Travis picking and variants thereof.
No tabs. Just the lyrics with notations.
And, the handy transposer. But, that was with Steve Goodman as the artist.
The song is also listed under Arlo Guthrie and there was simply text, with notation on the first verse.
If I had your e-mail, I could send you the song as a jpeg.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
