I'll Be, from Blind Snoopy Rhodes

OK, not a great job here but I got my new Korg D1600 working at least.

I recorded straight out of the lineout on my amp to the Korg with everything set basically flat. There is some clipping of the vocal in places and I didn't do it all that well but such is the current state of my art, so to speak. Anyway, just thought I would share something since I have been enjoying everyone elses stuff so much.

I hope to do a bit better once I get some monitors hooked up to the DAW so I can record the tracks separately. I am also hopoing the voice lessons i stated Last week help out over the next couple of months. We will see, after all I just started playing last November...

Sounds pretty good, but you do know that you have it all on the left side, don't you? That makes it tough on the listener. Nice playing for starting so recently!

Hmmm, all on the left side. I bet that mean that I need a stereo TRS cable to run from the amp to the DAW I guess. I haven't played it in stereo as I don't have any monitors for my DAW yet. I'll work on that real soon. I hope the next one gets better. As I said, it was a fist attempt and I was tickled to get something out of it.

Thanks for the heads up and the kind words...

Excellent job, BSR, most especially since you've only been playing for less than a year!

Recording and mixing is a separate art unto itself, and that will come with time.

But I really enjoyed this!

Holy cow Snoop, that Korg is one fancy piece of gadgetry. You could just load the song up in Audacity now and convert it to 2 channel mono without re-recording it. Nice song, those voice lessons must be paying off.

I went ahead and converted it for you....

I'll take it down off the web site in a couple days after you get a chance to get it.

Yes, you're doing very well indeed, JB. If you just started last November, you should be very proud of yourself. You're obviously musical, you sing in tune, and the coordination required to do what you've done here usually takes much longer to acquire than a few months. Bravo.

I don't think I need to tell you, but ... keep it up! Imagine what you'll be sounding like in a year from now!!

Thanks you guys! If you want something badly enough you're going to do it I guess. The Korg is very nice but the book is huge and rather intimidating. I need to get something called reference speakers evidently to be able to work directly with the DAW in the box. It has a nice touch screen interface and isn't really as hard as it looks I guess. I got a great deal on it, wouldn't have bought it new, would have got something simpler. Still, it's a cool piece of gear.

I will try to do more stuff once I get some equipment sorted out.

Kirk, thanks so much for the encouragement. I don't feel nearly as coordinated as you seem to think. Still, it gets better with each hour of practice. The long range is goal is currently to be able to play two night worth of restaurant gig quality music by my 50th birthday. That's November 2007. I hope to have quite a repertoire and be able to play it well enough to be worth a night's pay. I am tentatively planning a blowout party/fly-in/concert/hog roast one weekend that month here in sunny Florida. Hopefully you guys can all make it, November 2007, mark it down...

Still having a bit of trouble with the mic while playing, I was using a headworn mic until last week. A little bit different to use a mic on a stand but I am getting it. Like everything else it takes practice. Thanks for listening and the kind comments all...

Thanks Blues and Dawn. I do NEED the lessons though. I sing my tail off for one night but by the third night of singing a few hours I can hardly talk the next day. I need some training to use my voice just like I need lessons to learn guitar. Just getting some vocal warm-ups and range stretching exercises and some cool relaxation tips on the first lesson was worth the money and time. I used them the very next evening in fact. No sense wandering around lost if you know somebody with a map.

Anyway, it's a blast and I hope it will make me a better musician. If not it will at least add something to my practice sessions in the evening.
