have you considered taking up golf ? Only kidding man. I think all you have to work on is your timing. Practice with a metronome, the lyrics will come natural through practice. John

The guitar drowned the vocals so I could not hear the vocals very well. Kudos for singing an playing!

Yup. You need to turn up the vocals. Smooth out yor chord changes. It will come with practice.

Welcome to the site!
Good first effort! I've had a lot of troubles myself getting guitar and vocal levels balanced out, and if you can lower the guitar some and bring up the vocals some, it will sound like a whole new song.
I've been playing for a lot of years, but recording and mixing has kicked my butt more than almost any other part of learning this whole process of playing and posting!
Keep it up and keep 'em coming!

Yep! Couldn't really hear the vocals but it's a start. Try to concentrate on getting the strumming more relaxed and consistently timed. Good one.

Good effort. I think as simple as Green Day songs can be in terms of number of chords, etc., they are a little tricky to pull off. There's a kind of manic energy to the playing, yet a subdued almost drone to the vocals that is at odds with the pace of the songs. You'll need to work more on making smoother and faster chord changes to figure out this song and to keep the flow going.

Hey
Great to hear your playing.
My only suggestion would be to practice very slowly and aim at developing some more control. As Jim said, recording is a great thing to get into as we can hear our progress, and see what needs some work.
Looking forward to hearing some more from you soon

Ok the strumming pattern I use for this song is DDU/UD on each chord...
Gadd5- DDU/UD twice
Cadd9-DDU/UD once
D-DDU/UD once
repeat
Em- DDU/UD once
C-DDU/UD once
Em-DDU/UD once
D-DDU/UD once
C-DDU/UD once
then back to the beginning....i;m sure you know the songs order...
.....slow it down a bit until you know it then speed it up...much easier that way. Then eventually you can add the fingerpicking pattern he does in there too
Hope to hear it again!!

I went and took a look at this song in Guitar Pro. It starts off with a nice consistant fingerpicking pattern that you sing with before it hits the chord strumming. You could even multitrack in an electric to replace the violin. There is another thread about making a guitar sound like a violin. Good song to do something like that. Dang, there goes another iron in the fire.

This was one of my projects a short while a go and there is a piece of picking at the start, it is the the first verse and the first courous and is easy to learn. You then break into the strum for the rest of the song.
There are also a few other great songs to learn that use the same cords and are good to play and almost the same tempo
Oasis - Wonderwall
The Verve - Lucky man
Greenday - Boulevard of Broken dreams

you still did a good job for your first shot at it. You'll have your sound squared away soon before you know it. If your hearts in your musical playing ability you'll soon find that the sky is the limit. Keep a rockin !
