  Two covers

These are 'as tears go by' the rolling stones early stuff, and pink floyds 'pigs on the wing' its acoustic with cheapo recording equipment done with two tracks to make it sound a little more interesting, strumming and singing in one track and tiny solo's in another. not experienced enough too do it all in one track, comments welcome thanks

Cool first uploads. You seem much more comfortable with the second tune. It suites your voice, You would do well with John Prine type tunes. You have a similar vocal style. Smooth changes and a good solid strumming style.

On the first one you seemed to be struggling a bit to play the chords cleanly. A bit of string buzz from finger contact, I think. You just need to practice that one a bit more. The second tune was very nicely done. Looking forward to hearing more from you.

Hi there and welcome to the site!

I agree with Allthumbs that the 2nd piece sounded like you were more comfortable playing it -- although I enjoyed both of your uploads!

As a fellow New Jersey member, I look forward to hearing a lot more from you. In case you're interested in all things NJ, I just put up and old (1969 type old) song I did about Secaucus - I thought you might appreciate it if you live anywhere in that area.

Hmmm, I thought that the first tune (as tears...) was better overall. The string buzz sounded like an effect to me. tomg, maybe you can tell me how that first tune was played. I didn't really feel he was struggling. Both were pretty cool.

D-Dawn, I posted first thing when I joined the forum. But I haven't come up with anything since that I felt was worthy. I don't really feel like I'm stagnant, but just have a lot of irons in the fire. It wasn't even until 2 nites ago that I realized that I was actually coming along fingerpick'n Stairway to Heaven. I'd been poking away at that tune occasionally, but not like I was serious to learn it. However, I am getting a hankering to git sump'n polished enough to post.

Thanks folks, some great and quick replies. These songs have been sitting in my files for a while I have others so I was happy to post them right away. I kinda struggle with rhythm at times depending on what I play. I tend to let the fact that I was able to sing and play at the same time early on make me lazy and use lyrics as a timing tool when I should be counting or working more with a metronome. Fly135 hit it, there are slight effects in most of my songs to compensate for poor equipment, and well, to try and make my playing sound better. The effect in this case (and often) is audacity wah wah basically with the wah wah effect turned off (maybe 2% depth) to take the sting out of my finger strumming and give it better tone. BTW i'll look for that NJ song but I live in central NJ

Good job Tom! I preferred the second one, but I'm a big Floyd fan too. Keep it up and keep posting. People here will be able to help you out tremendously.

Thanks, pigs on the wing is the first song I wanted to learn when I started playing. The rest of that album will have to wait a few decades. I will be posting other songs soon. I guess in a new thread would be the best way

Would these be easier to sing if you capoed up a couple frets? It sounds like you are at the low end of your range.

Hi bob, these two are not capoed, but i'm discovering now what key my voice is best suited for (i think) and other songs I did capo. I have assumed if I have a higher vioce the capo should be higher up the neck....is that correct?
