  A little something I made

Hi, I´m new here and this is my first post. I´ve been playing guitar for little over one year, and this is something I made a couple of weeks ago. I did it quite fast, in a day or so, and it´s very much a work in progress.

Constructive critisism is always wellcome, I need it

I´ll spend some time listening through your contributions, it´s allways fun to find a new good guitarsite.

Hi Ink. Pretty good first upload. Needs a little more polishing. Add some slurs, double stops etc. Good start.

A suggestion for this subforum in general I lifted from photography sites.

Most times along with a pic or portfolio the photog will supply info about the setup, i.e. equipment, f-stop, shutter speed etc. and will sometimes even supply a photo of the setup.

My suggestion would be to put in a small blurb along with the recording itself that describes the signal chain, e.g. which guitar, which pedal and effect used, recording setup.

Example I'm working on a few recordings and here's what the blurb would look like:

Larrivee L-03R acoustic w/ D'addario phos bronze strings
Single AKG C1000S condensor mic 10" from fret 12 perpendicular to fretboard
M Audio Firewire Solo A/D
FL Studio Producer Edition Sound Editor => compression used (haven't decided how much yet) and XmS left to right channel delay for stereo simulation

BTW I hope to post within the next month.

Nice piece thanks for sharing

Is the guitar port the one from Line 6? If so is it worth buying?

Thanks yet again for all the kind words.

About (Line 6) Guitarport: Being a beginner I do think it´s great value and a really capable little gadget. Playing and recording on the computer becomes very easy, and I think it sounds great, even though it might not sound as good as a good amp. On the other hand, it´s much cheaper.

Liked it. Some confident picking and good rhythm work. Perhaps just work on the timing a bit towards the end.

Nice track ink3. Sounds like you're well on your way, great progress in one year. Well done.

Krissovo, I use the Line6 Guitar port too. As ink3 said, it makes getting sound into your computer very easy and sounds pretty good too. If you want to do a forum search you will find quite a few posts about. You can use it with any sequencer, (eg. Audacity) or purchase a package which includes the Riffworks recording program. (Loop based, like Garage Band)

Nice one Ink ... you have some great ideas going there. I kept waiting for a new section to take over for a while, like maybe a key change (try going to the relative major 'A'), but as you say, it's a work in progress. Great stuff ...

I think the most important thing to do when you start playing the guitar is to find a really good teacher, which I did (thanks Dan), but I have probably been a little (lot?) less focused on the theory side of music than he would have preferred. So, I´ve just spent a couple of hours trying to figure out what it is I do in this tune. Which was prompted by the following excellent comment:

So, I´ve discovered that it´s in F sharp minor (which was a bit of a midbender when i first saw it), and I´ve also learned what a relative major is. Thanks Kirk, this pulled me kicking and screaming into theory

Now I just have to understand what that means on a practical level

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
