  Riders on the storm

Hey folks,
I was playing around tonight with this old Doors classic. I found a particularly gloomy and stormy sounding tone and figured it worked ok for this tune. Advice on how to achieve the vibrato guitar tone that's in the original is welcome.
As for the vocals, hey, I'm no Jim Morrison!

Hey Todd...!!!

The effects, both on the guitar and the vocals work well...!!! I liked your version of this,
most coolest of songs...!!!

Cheers
Ben

Hey Todd,

First, you wouldn't have to go too far to really sound close to Morrison. Very Cool.

I don't know much about the whole vibrato thing. I'd have to listen to the original again to get it in perspective.

Other than that, I think your recording does have that gloomy feel to it. Nice playing!

Les

Thanks guys!
My wife laughed at the comparisons to Morrison. I think she wishes I looked and did sound like him!

Good job Todd!

You do have a really good voice for this style of song, and your material and playing of it were right on.

Hey thanks for the kind words!
Jim, I like singing the gloomy low tunes with a very limited vocal range! Maybe I'll learn some Leonard Cohen next! First we take Manhattan....

Nice job, but I think the effects were a bit too heavy on the guitar. I couldn't hear the rhythm. It was a bit lost in a wash of effects.

I agree with what RB said about the guitar, it needs a bit more definition. I like the vocal though, this song suits your voice.

Also, check this out. We all know it's not true. I saw him just the other night, working in my local chip shop. Elvis was running the grill.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
