  Playing with Blues

Woke up this morning.....da da da..da Picked up the old 6 string.....da da da..da

Well anyway there is a lot Blues on here at the moment and I thought I would try playing some yesterday. Its based on John Lee Hooker's Boom Boom Boom but unfortunatly it does not do the man justice. A couple of things I need to work on is the change of the cord pattern and some vibrato. The strange thing is if I am not recording then I can do the vibrato at the end of the licks no problem. Also I will start playing this in front of a metronome to try and keep the tempo better again when I am not recording it seems ok.

Anyway if anyone else has any points that I could "Blues" it up a bit then please let me know and I will.

BTW I love the sound of Blues all of a sudden, never was a real fan in the past but now I am playing the guitar it feels great to play and well.....natural for me.

Yeah man that was coooooooool.

I love the blues too, all the slack string acoustic slave blues and stuff. Also like the mid 50's early 60's blues too, great players. Your recording was good, relaxing but hearty. Where did you learn to play this stuff hmmmm? Any special websites or books?

Good stuff.

LOL....Thanks man

I found the tab this morning after watching the blues brothers last night and adapted it slightly so I can play it. Never played any blues before and I am loving it so far (I know 1 day is not a lot) but I think I will concentrate on it for while to understand it more.

Does anyone what the best settings are on a effects pedal are for a great blues sound?????

Welcome to the Blues club!

Yeah, once it grabs a hold of you, it never lets go.

Good job for a first go at the blues. They're so hard to do because they're so simple in form - that it takes a long time to put ones personal "stamp" on them and sound unique. I struggle with that every day!

Keep up the good work!

Jim

No Problem

The way I have done it is:
Part 1

e|--------------------------------------------------|
B|-----3--------------------------------------------|
G|-2>4---4<2-0--------1-1---2-0-1-------------------|
D|-------------2-0-2- -2-2-0-2-0-2-------------------|
A|------------------ --2-2-2-0-0-2-------------------|
E|------------------ --0-0-3-----0-------------------|
D U D D U D

Part 2

e|------------------------ --2-----------------------|
B|-----3---------------- ----3-----------------------|
G|-2>4---4<2-0---0-2--2-2-0-2---2-------------------|
D|----------- -2-------2-2-2-0---2-------------------|
A|------------------ --0-0-3---3-0-------------------|
E|------------------------ 0-------------------------|
D U D D U D

Part 3

e|--------------------------------------------------|
B|-----3--------------------------------------------|
G|-2>4---4<2-0--0-2>4--4-4-4-3-2--------------------|
D|----------- -2--------4-4-4-3-2--------------------|
A|-------------------- -2-2-2-1-0--------------------|
E|--------------------------------------------------|

The order is

Part 1, Part 1, Part 2, Part 1, Part 3, Part 1

2>4 is a slide as well as 4<2

The end of the lick should have some vibrato

Aplologies for the formating have attached word document

Kudos for doing a John Lee Hooker piece. Like a lot of old blues guys, his power was in how well he could make each note talk to you. He played some fairly simple stuff that is all but impossible for us recreate the feel he had. There is one song he does that plays the same riff over and over with minor variations for almost 4 minutes. It acts like a drone behind his voice. it works beautifully for him but anyone else without a ton of experience and heart would have a real hard time with it. It is fun to play his stuff though.

Probably the only thing that would work would be to make the tab into a PDF file and attach that.

I have a PDF print driver that can convert WORD documents (or anything that can be printed) to PDF.

If you send me a PM with your email address, I'll return you one with mine so you can send me the .doc file - and I'll convert it to PDF and send that back to you -- if you want to do that. I don't want to publically post my email address, but we can do it this way if you want.

Jim

Hmm, It sez that it's a bad file when I D/L'd it. No matter, the tab you put up above works fine.

If you 'save link/target' it'll come down as attachment.php and you just need to rename it to whatever.pdf
