Going To California
Took your guys advice, always wanted to learn this tune, tonite I sat down and gave it a crack. I believe Page used 2 guitars and mandolin on the original recording.
Here's what came out of my Taylor.414-CE..it's a start...I'm practicing the alternating bass-line and actually using more than thumb and index, it's a tough habit to break, but I'm determined. The tapping in the background would be my foot. I'm a flat picker used to playing 10's on a Strat, I bought this Taylor August 05, and I'm finding a new love in the Acoustic guitar. Funny ...the song title may be an omen to those of you who are aware of my current situation...thanks again for your support..I needed that.
PS. I slid the chair to the right on this one Nocat slid back for the fade out

Definetly one of my favorite songs, you play it well. I enjoyed that. I really like the acoustic zeppelin stuff. I remember taking a crack at this one a while back, but never got there. You seem to have it pretty good! keep it up!

LOL...!!! I'd hate to see how you manage a wawa effect using that technique...
Awesome playing as usual Bro....!!!!
Is this done in alternate tuning.?
All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.

Wah-wah Pedal?...ehh.........that's an easy one....um...I break out the old wooden rockin' chair
It's in Drop D tuning...only the Bass E-string. the remaining are standard.
You can hear me stumble alot at the top of each verse phrase.I'd have to say it's one of ..if not the most strangest fingerings I've attempted yet.Your pinky lands on the 5th fret of the bass E string and stays"planted" there...while your index and mid finger "walk" around the notes of an "open-D" chord. Only way I could get it to sound close to what I was hearing on the recording. This style playin is new to me but growing to appreciate it.Once ya do the little "walk" around those D-chord notes..then ya finally "land" on the open D chord, and your "planted" pinky can leave the 5th fret.
Now that your on that open D chord, you alternate the bass-line with thumb and index between the Bass dropped D and the "open" D string..it adds flavor to the melody and richens it to my ear anyway. While those 2 guys are alternating the base line, Hah-Hah...now you CAN'T use your index finger to "work" the treble strings
You're forced to use your middle and ring finger That's exactly the "Habit" I'm trying to break....just using the thumb and index!...won't work
I've read in past post that you yourself share my same bad habit on trying to learn finger-style playing "thumb/pinky" thangy.
Honestly, I just picked this out yesterday not long before I posted it. I was listening to the backing track and was gonna record over it and said "what do I do with this? the whole backing track is guitar be nice for a madolin player maybe.
Anyway, it's really not difficult, especially if your accustomed to finger-style playing... work with it ....the song I always wanted to learn, turned out to be the exercise I needed

Nice job! The playing is great. The recording is OK. The level is pretty low, I had to crank the volume.

On 2nd listen, the level might not be as low as I though. Perhaps the EQ fooled me.

Nice song, great playing Garry. Sounds very complicated to my beginner ear. Very enjoyable to listen to.
I like your idea of the wah wah rockin' chair

Another one at your usual excellent playing standard Gary. Man, you owe yourself a decent mic.

Hey Garry,
Fantastic! Sounds like a lot of finger motion going on there, and the melody stays intact. For someone just starting fingerstyle playing, man, you are a quick study! Most enjoyable, thanks for the post!

I think Page dropped both E's to D's as in DADGBD, it might make it easier
you just play the high e on the 2nd string at the 5th fret

Try accomplishing that on 1 guitar, no capo, 1 track, no dubbing...it was a challenge for me.
