Kirk's Mash
Hey everyone,
This is my first foray into the recording booth, although I've been listening in on you all and I feel slightly humbled to be in such talented company! I've been playing for several years now...still consider myself a beginner though.
I'd like to thank Kirk for putting up all those great lessons and arrangements. I've never found a teacher I really 'clicked' with, and my progress was always a start and stop affair from the beginning. Finding this site allowed me to work at my own pace, feel less harried, and I'm starting to see the results.
Well, I've been working on Kirk's arrangement of the theme from MASH, and this is my best take. Still not quite smooth, and a bit of rhythmic oddness in part 2. But if you played this to me 6 months ago I would never have believed I'd be playing like this so soon.
Criticism welcome

That's very well done BattlePanda ... I saw the choppers coming, so you must be doing it right.
You're sure hitting the notes nice and cleanly. All you need now is a few hundred more passes through it all (which fortunately, is the fun part) and smooth all the bits and pieces into one long MASH. It's very heartening for me to hear my simple arrangements come to life through other hands ... thanks for posting!

Thanks for all the support, guys...I'm definitly trying to play it a couple of times every day to smooth out the wrinkles. Maybe for my next tune I'll pick something more cheerful!

Great, I am working on this by myself, and I know how hard it is.
You did great, I wish I was there already, too. Greetings J.

All you need is to come up to tempo. Don't push it, just keep playing it and it will become a part of you sooner than you think. You're getting great distinct notes and a nice tone already.
I really like Kirk's arrangement of this gem. I'm going to learn it myself.

Beautifully done, battlepanda. You're well on your way ... I keep saying it here, but it's always the bottom line ... all you need is more practice, more time training your fingers to go where they must and do so musically, in the flow. You've obviously got all the positions down, now you've got to be able to close your eyes and picture them all coming one after the other. That's your goal ... then you can dance between them. And if you can also ascribe a chord name to each (as per the tab), you'll be even better off!
One step at a time, eh?

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
