Caledonia - a Dougie MacLean tune

Folks,

Let me apologize for this recording. I've got a house full of kids and folks, races on TV and kids and email going on ....... so, sorry about that .... and in my "Open Air" recording studio I have to try and work around family noise!

This is Dougie MacLean's tune, Caledonia. It's one of my favorite melodies. I'm playing the Guild D25 and tuned in an Open C tuning (CGCGCE) which creates a beautiful drone tuning for fickerpicking. I'm capo'd on the 4th fret, just like Dougie, although I am in no way shape or form close to the quality of his work.

For the folks who are starting out with fingerpicking, notice the tripplets in the picking. These are actually just a series of pulloffs and hammer ons. The hardest part is getting the "timing" of the tripplets into the normal beat of the melody.

Enjoy ... http://www.croakingfrogmusic.com/mp3/caledonia.mp3

Don't be so hard on yourself, Les. That was most impressive.

Next time you want peace and quiet try playing this great game with the kids. You drop them off somewhere on your 30 acres and they have to find their way back. I'm sure it wouldn't take more than a day or two.

By the way, that Caledonia sounds like a great place, where is it?

Nem,

If you're really interested, I'll work out the tab. It'll take me a few days as I'm not a tab person. It's really a simple tune. The hardest part is working in the trips.

Nem,

Very cool. If you want some really great information on Dougie's style, heres "The Page" to get it. Everything you ever wanted to know about the 'wee guitar'!

http://www.weeguitar.com/

You will have to request the tab. I don't have it or I'd send it right up.

Thumbs up

Beautiful! I really loved it! The guitar alone is beautiful, but the vocals are also really nice and the harmonies are lovely. I even like the subtle "kid noise" you used so creatively in the background!
