Just figured out how to record onto PC!
Hi everyone,
I've wanted to put some of my dodgy music up here for a while, but never knew how...but I got it figured and Tandy came in handy [cringe].
Moving on from the lameness, I've posted a couple of my fingerstyle renditions up here (My Girl and Hallelujah I Love Her So), one that was in Acoustic Guitar Magazine (Postscript) and I also put a spanishy lamenty little peice I made up too. I named that last one Tres Topetones (the google english to spanish translation for "Three Bumps") because I came up with it while trying to figure out the guitar bit to Bump, Bump, Bump by B2K.
I just started playing the backbeat percussive bit in My Girl. I found it pretty hard to fit in with the melody. Iif anyone would like to know how to play it, I put my transcription of this up here. Make sure you go right to the end of the thread to get the better version.

Cheers,
Dugal.

Percusive slaps
Hi Dugal
I really enjoyed listening to your mp3 of 'My Girl'. How did you do the percusive bits though? I can hear them on beats 2 & 4, but was wondering what part of your hand did you use & which strings did you tap/slap & how.

Hey Dan,
Glad you enjoyed it. For the percussive bit, I was doing what I call 'chucks' like Jack Johnson. All I was doing was doing a downstrum and not letting any strings ring (or that's what I was trying to do ). I used all of my fingers (as opposed to thumb) to strum it and then my thumb and fingers to mute straight after the downstroke. After the down stroke, I tried to get my fingers straight back into my picking pos'n (which is ala Travis - thumb bass, three fingers for trebles). I did mean that I couldn't anchor my pinkie though, which I'm not used, too.
Hope that made sense.
Dugal.
p.s. I attached a cleaner steel string version, in case it helps.

All nice playing Dugal. I particularly liked the steelstring version of My Girl. Nice arrangement which you played well.

Very nice, all of them. I can't get that percussive sound unless I use a pick. Have to keep at it, I guess.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
