Kirk's slide version of Layla
Layla was a recent request for a lesson here and it made me think of Kirk's slide version of it so I thought I'd upload here. It's great!

Man you can really get that slide to sing.
Of course I'm just starting but my hope is to be able to play "running on faith", or some resemblence of it by year end. It has some very cool slide on it. More understated on an accoustic, or a resonator in this case, but I really dig the sound.
Kirk will be swamped with basic questions on slide before year end before I'm through
If I forget to say so later, thanks for being so open Kirk. For me, finding someone who is great on slide and also encouraging beginners is almost a miracle.
Hey Clancy, thanks for reminding me how good I have it as a beginner with my musical taste.

Keep in mind Kirk plays slide in standard and Dropped D . I believe Running on Faith is played in open G. With a bit of work it could be played in standard with slide though.

Thanks AllThumbs but that's still a bit out of my league. Still working on my first song lesson. Kiss me alot. This key and that are beyond me at this point.
Catch me in Sept or so and I'll hopefully be a ways down the learning path.
Thanks for the input.
You really bring some good stuff to this learning forum

When I was talking open G, I meant the guitar is tuned to an open G chord rather than the normal standard. You certainly want to get standard tuning down first before you think about open tunings.

That rocked! It's always great to see video to help figure out how people who can really play get those sounds. What always amazes me is how effortless it looks when you play Kirk.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
