  Freight Train

Hi everybody. I started playing almost a year ago and would like to thank kirk as his site and lessons have been very helpful. I just made my first post in a thread about "Freight Train" in another section I also posted the tab for how I play it. I decided i would record it to see what some people think, this is the first time ive recorded a whole song, its hard to get it right all the way through, but i tried. i used some freeware recording program with my a/e pluged into the mic in with a cheap radio shack adaptor. anyways tell me what you think, comments and critisism are apprechiated .

Sounds like you have the melody down pretty well. I liked the added runs. You may be muting the bass strings a mite to much though. I think it would be also more expessive to slow it down a little. Imagine her sitting in her rocker on the porch singing her tune with you playing along.

Nice, well done.
I am reasonably sure that is better than I could do.
Playing too fast? Take it as a compliment. I have never been told I played too fast, just the opposite.
Again, great job, keep it up

For someone who's only been playing for a year, you're doing just fine aarona36. That's one good thumb you've got there ... it's very positive on the bass line and your other fingers have good independence. Just keep on keepin' on ... you'll be competing with Tommy before you know it!

Keep recording and posting.

It sounds really nice, especially the second version. I really like this tune and it sounded fairly clean for the most part considering the technique required to play. To think you have only been playing a year makes it even more impressive.

Personally I always make mistakes when i'm recording, no matter how familiar I am with the tune. But these early recordings sound good. Well Done.

I have been bangin' away at it on and off over the weekend. I am trying to copy that video recorded arrangement that someone posted at Google Video. I find I need to tab it out in order to understand what's going on. If I get anywhere I'll post the results.

Best,

David

They sound really good aarona36. The second one is very pleasant. Makes me think it summer, even though its below zero outside.

sorry for the delayed response, ive been on vacation for two weeks, and am kind of bummed about being back, but ive got myself a better recording setup now and am going to try to get some more stuff recorded soon.

Kiwisa- Here is the tab, the two sections are out of order, but im sure you can figure it out. I learned it back in july, it took me a couple weeks to "learn" and maybe a couple more to get close to the right sound, but im still learning to play it better.
