Here's My Gear

Nothing to fancy here. The guitar on the left is my new Washburn. The middle is an "Electra" that I was given by a friend. The right hand one is an old "National" that belonged to my grandfather. It's a 1969 model but the only real value is sentimental value as an heirloom. It's not even playable as it won't stay in tune due to warping of the top and it has truss rod issues. But, it does make a great conversation piece. Like I said, nothing fancy here but Ilike them.

Nice Washburn, music rookie ... and I like the look of the Electra. You could probably get the National fixed ... there's nothing a good guitar maker/fixer can't do, and I bet it would sound fantastic after all these years of aging.

Thanks for posting!

I love your Washburn. Is that an abalone rosette around the soundhole?

LORENA
Pronounced LOR-REH-NUH and not LOR-RAY-NUH. Nevermind. Just call me LORI.

  Thanks

I appreciate all the compliments! As far as the soundhole design goes, Lori, I honestly don't have a clue. I do know that the markings are based on Hopi Indian art design. I took the National to a local guitar shop and they told me to, ready for this, take the guitar into the bathroom with me when I shower in order to re humidify it. I have followed their advice and the flat top is starting to straighten out. Not to sure about the truss rod though. Anyway, again thanks for the kind remarks!!

You may be pleasantly surprised to find that the National has some value to it and may be worth restoring. I'm no expert by far but a lot of them oldies have good mojo!
Don't laugh at the bathroom trick, it really works. You'd do well to get a soundhole humidifier for it, too.

Hey Dan, can you recommend any sites where I might find out if it's worth the expense to repair? I'll never get rid of the guitar, but I don't want to spend more $ to fix it , than it's worth. It would be nice to have it in playable condition, though. Any info would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

Do hou have any luthiers near you? An internet search might help here.
You can always check the newsgroups as well. I know at least five luthiers hang out in the rec.music.makers.guitar.acoustic newsgroup and a LOT of members have had old instruments refurbished.
Good luck!
Dan
