Standing Ovation

Sorry for the lame thread title. But here it is.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y33...0/Pict0010.jpg

I was going to get a laminate top one which was $300 cheaper. Tried that one for the sake of it to see what the difference is, with no actual intent of buying it, just curious. I heard the difference and couldn't pass it up.

Nice. Takes a while to get used to the round back. I pretty much have to use a strap on my Ovation. Mines the lower end Celebrity and I think it sounds great. So yours must be awesome.

I obviously don't know much about different kinds of guitars, my first thought was that the sound hole was missing, now fly135 says it has a round back, I'm not sure if Ovation is the type or a brand, I assume it's the type.

Yep, learning most of the Nirvana songs is still on my to do list. Come as You Are, Heart Shaped Box, Smells Like Teen Spirit, and Rape Me, are the ones I've had a shot at and sound ok.

Btw congrats on the guitar. Need a new one myself.

i loved my ovation....glenn campbell plays that one...it has great projection and tone....the lychra rounded back takes a bit of adjustment but once you get accustomed to it that guitar will sing for you...good choice....and oh so pretty..

nice looking guitar. I think I'd have to velcro it to my leg tho' to keep it from slipping off .

Well, yeh, sort of!! It's both! Ovation is the Brand as well as the style. They were the first (and really only! All the others are knock offs) to do the round back and Lycra material.

As for them slipping off the lap when the player is sitting down? I bought a little thing last year on Ebay for around $5.00 It is textured and sort of fuzzy on the side that touches the leg. The other side has adhesive on it and it sticks to the body of the guitar. Works great for holding the guitar on my lap while playing.

Thanks all.

I haven't really had trouble playing it on my lap. It stays put, it's comfortable, strings are easy to fret. It's the easiest playing acoustic I've ever played.

It is more for playing grunge and rock unplugged. Not really into branching out. I'm working on Pennyroyal Tea by Nirvana on it. Once I get a mic, I'll record it. Going line in sounds like crap.

Cool, I am just polishing off Oh Me. Its beautiful to play and in its basic form easy.

I have also in my armoury Come as you are (easy'ish), All apologies (Hard to learn but once you have the riff mastered then its fine). Polly I found to be the easiest.

My next challenge is lake of fire, I would never play smells like teen spirit on an acoustic that needs distortion.

Congrats on a great guitar. I have a Ovation Celebrity model and love it. It plays nice and easy just like my electric.
You said it "Its the easiest acoustic I have ever played"
