My cheapie

Hi everyone, I thought I'd post a picture of my cheapie Les Paul style hollow bodied jazz guitar. I got it from a 'well-known-auction-site' and paid 78 pounds sterling (inc. S&H from Germany) which is about $150 U.S. It's about to have a set up and new flatwound strings put on it.

I've seen these on e-bay, but always been a wary of buying. But it's a stunning looking guitar. Did you have to wait long for delivery.

The auction closed on Sunday Feb 4th, i paid for it on Monday 5th and DHL delivered Monday 12th as promised on email from Keiper. It gets fairly good reviews on Harmony central (apart from one numpty who complained that the bridge wasn't glued on.. it fell off when he snipped all the strings to change them.. d'uh!) I'm dead pleased with it Doug, my tutor even likes it, he said the tone was nice as is but would be even better with a set up and ditch the crummy 9's it comes with and fit some jazz flat wounds, and he's got a USA Tele, a USA Strat, a Gibson Les P Standard and a Takemine acoustic !I reckon it's a result for 78 quid .. have a trawl through Keiper's feedback on them.

I normally frown upon budget guitars and praise medium range ones. But this one really changed my thinking.

Great ebay find.

Looks nice, Barry - let us know how she plays once you get her all set up!

I have also bought a couple of cheap guitars on E-Bay; basically an unheard of brand made in China. I personally think a lot of these are made on the same assembly line as the big name brands and then slipped out the back door. I was really impressed with the quality of the guitar. The necks were nice and straight. The action was easy to set up with no quirks.
Now that I've started building guitars I've been selling off these guitars. Not an easy sell. People are leery unless it's a name brand.
I can buy 3 of these inexpensive guitars for what it cost me for materials for one of my builds. LOL. But I guess pride is priceless.

Congrats on your find.

Thanks everyone for your comments but this really wasn't a lucky find, the well-known-auction-website.co.uk is peppered with them, they also do Les Paul copies, Strat copies, Ovation style bowl backs, ES355 types (winning bids as low as £50 o the 355 style !!!), hell they even do double drum kits that have been going or less than £225 !!

Here's a pic of my cheapie starter Epiphone Les Paul Jr. (not as many features as Barry's, to put it mildly, but I like it):

And just $150 for yours, Barry? I'm certainly no expert, but I'd say that was a steal...

Have a look on "well-known-auction-site".co.uk Ledhead look up Keiper under Musical Instruments mate. they do a 355 type copy too along with Strats and Les Pauls. Mine will be going for a set up and new flat wound strings on Monday (£30 inc. strings, intonation, neck relief, action .. the works)

No probs Led, my dream guitar (other than an Ibanez GB-10, George Benson signature $3000 ish !!) is an Ibanez Artcore AGS83B in Flat Antique Burst £350 in pounds sterling over here, $675 US. or thereabouts. Considering I've only been playing for 8 weeks and change though, I think I'm getting a wee bit ahead of myself dreaming about these guitars, I went from zero to 2 guitars in 4 weeks !! The good news is my tutor is a jazz man !!
